If there was one thing Darth Vader excelled at, it was making a memorable first impression.

He waited until the classroom was full, then stalked in, cape flaring behind him.

He twitched his fingers as he reached the center of the room and the door slammed shut behind him.

"I am Darth Vader," he intoned over the even mechanized breathing of his suit. "I trust you may have already heard of me." His masked face scanned the faces in front of him. If he was at all affected by any negative thoughts and emotions being directed at him, he wasn't showing it. "You will refer to me as either Darth Vader or Lord Vader. Any other address will result in detention." He began pacing the room. "You should be grateful for that. Very few have ever been granted advanced warning of my actions.

"Today we discuss how far over the line you would go to save someone you love." Vader's voice turned cold. "I don't want to hear that you wouldn't go over a line. Would you lie for someone? Steal for them? Kill for them? Does it matter to you if it's friend or family? Does how much you love--" and yes, the word sounded awkward coming from that particular visage, "--that person affect how far you would go for them?"

Vader crossed his arms over his chest and waited for the first student to speak.

{OOC: Roster and syllabus here. I'm starting my first day of work in an internetless environment tomorrow morning, so Vader will be responding late. Please don't burn the classroom down while I'm gone :).]

Okay. Vader is scary. I am not. If you are looking to get a detention, ping down here. I'll be online late tomorrow or early Tuesday to respond to everything happening in the class (stupid orientation), so please don't start fights with each other. Discussion is good. Blatant disregard for other people's feelings ~~is only for the teacher to do~~ will be ruthlessly squashed.

Walter shrugged. "For someone I love, there isn't a line. I'll go as far as it takes."

Neil Perry

The entrance? Not so impressive. He'd seen all of it before except the mechanized breathing.

If Vader had come through the wall he still wouldn't have been impressed. So young to be so jaded.

Neil would get around to answering the question.

For the moment...he was boggling.

"Holy wow."

Vader nodded. "And if crossing that line causes others to call you evil?"

"Which is more important? Other people's opinions or someone I care about?" Walter asked rhetorically before answering his own question. "There isn't even a question - their opinions don't matter."

Wee banthabell!!! *SQUEE!*

Neil pondered the question for a while, listening to Walter's answer before raising his hand politely.

Steerpike

Steerpike only loved one person: Steerpike.

The question, then, was an easy one. "I would do anything but die, I think, should I be able to help it. Dying is a useless act, it accomplishes nothing."

Steerpike was unimpressed. Well, except for the door thing. That was pretty cool.

He decided that he would go for the "Lord Vader" option. This teacher seemed to have power, and if Steerpike could win his favor, he might just grant him some of that power.

Errr...wait, *floods classroom*

"And if your choice turns the one you loved against you?" Vader pressed. "Is it worth it then?"

"Yes, tiny version of Doctor Wilson?"

Vader picked up the general train of Steerpike's thoughts and was glad that the mask hid a smirk.

"Indeed," he said. "Death can be terribly inconvenient, Strawlick."

Of course he knew what his student's name was. He just didn't really care that much.

...

He was really going to have to meet this Dr. Wilson. Lowering his hand, he gave Vader a shakey but mannerly smile.

"It's Neil, Lord Vader. Neil Perry." He wasn't correcting Vader, no no...not at all, just being clear that he wasn't Dr. Wilson.

"And, I don't think I've ever been in love that way with another person so I don't feel as if I could speak to that part of the question, since I don't know how I feel." There was a pause then, because he didn't ~~realize~~ think it would hurt he did say. "But for an ideal...for love of a dream, I think I would be prepared to die for that."

Would be...was, at one time.

Again Walter sounded sure of himself. "Yes, it's worth it. Unless letting them live makes their life something other than life. I would do anything for my master, but I wouldn't give him into a vampire's hands to keep him in some pretense of life."

Someone has had to think about these things.
