Friday Afternoon Assembly

Josh stood up on the stage, looking distinctly uncomfortable.

It wasn't like someone had given him a microphone and an audience in a while. Not since the whole "secret plan to fight inflation" thing, anyway.

"Welcome to the first game show at Fandom High," he read from his cue card. "Where the questions are just as cracked out as the school." He raised an eyebrow. "Huh. Today we will be vying teachers against students for bragging rights and pie from Jeff, God of Biscuits. The game will be divided into three sections--much like the US government--though the students will be overrepresented because they know that the teachers at this school will kick their butts otherwise with their superior wit and guile."

Josh grinned. "Let the games begin!"

The twins heard this assembly was actually going to be interesting so they show up, finding seats and looking around for some familiar faces.

Matilda plopped down between them with a grin. "Hey Kaoru, Hika-chan." She pinches Hikaru's cheek, just to make him mad probably.

"Heeyy!" Hikaru pouts and pulls his head away from her hand. "Stop calling me Hika-chan, only Kaoru can!" He doesn't appreciate getting the feminine attributed to him and not to Kaoru.

Matilda gets a kick out of this and leans against Kaoru a bit as she laughs. "Okkkaayyy. Fine."

Kaoru chuckles a little, trying to give Hikaru his desired sympathetic look. "Naa, Hikaru's too tough for cutesy nick names, ne, Hikaru?" He teased, getting the expected pout.
"Perhaps, but don't you just love it when I call you こねこ, Kaoru?" Hikaru teased right back, Kaoru pinking at the prospect of actually being called kitten and by his brother.

Matilda giggles and ruffles Kaoru's hair teasingly, "Aren't you a cute little kitten Kaoru?"

"He's lying! He doesn't call me kitten!" Kaoru blushed frantically and waved his arms.

She smirks, "Can I?"

He pauses in his flailings to take that in for a moment. A girl wanted to call him kitten. Whether she was asking in jest or not, the thought nearly broke his brain on the spot. "If...you'd like."

Blush. Maybe she'd save that one for another time.

Kaoru's eyes widened a little. He did not just tell her if you'd like.....but he did. oh god. Change of subject!!
"Have you been to any of these other assemblies this year? This is the first we've been to." Kaoru quickly covered up the awkwardness.
"Yea, all these others have sounded so boring." Hikaru whines a little and leans against Matilda's shoulder.

She nods. "Yeah I've missed all the others myself. We can come together more often."

"Hika-chan?" Setsuna asked with a mocking smirk on her face as she spotted the twins and Matilda and decided to take a seat next to....Hika-chan. She snorted a laugh, shook her head.

This would work well. Very well. She'd come to the assembly as sort of an avoidy technique (Ranma never came to these things), but having three people to talk to made it extra-avoidy.

"Hi there Setsuna." She smiles. "Nice of you to join us."

"Hey," Setsuna returned her smile lightly with a bit of a shrug. "I'd rather chose to join you guy than have you make me join you."

It was rare, yes, but her voice did contain a small amount of a teasing tone.

Matilda is sharp, about 1000 times more than Ranma. So she catches it and returns it. "Oh but it's more fun for US if we make you."

"Precisely why I sat down strategicly. Can't let you guys have any fun."

Hikaru turned with a bit of annoyance. "That's not for the public's use!" He pinked and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Hey Setsuna." Kaoru waved from the other side of Matilda.

Setsuna waved back to Kaoru with a little bit of a grin. Rare was the chance where the person blushing and crossing their arms over their chest was her, so she was enjoying it.

"But it's so cute, Hika..ru." Okay, so her attempts to say it again left her blushing after all. Shut up.

Hikaru quirked an eyebrow. Setsuna had said 'cute'... "Well, 'Set-chan' is pretty cute too." His pout tweaks itself into a smirk of amusement.

All the humour, what little there was, drained out of Setsuna's face; she looked even paler than normal as she stiffened. She swallowed. It's okay, it's okay, it's okay. He doesn't know; he had every right to say it because he's only returning it, you should have almost expected it, you stupid girl. Calm down...

She was balling her fists in her laps, sucking in a deep breath. Don't hit him, it's okay, he doesn't know...You should have expected it...

"Don't," she managed to get out stiffly, "ever call me that again, Hikaru. Just don't do it. Only one person is ever, ever allowed to call me that, and you are not that person...."

He watched her sudden transformation and the amusement quickly slipped from him as well. What the hell was wrong with her all of a sudden?!
He bit his lip, trying to hold back the bitter sarcasm he was ready to let go for that rather sudden comment,"Well, excuse me, Sakurazaki-san, but I hope the feeling is mutual."

She lifted her chin in defiance, at first, but then sighed. She didn't have the energy to put up a fight about it, really, when you got right down to it. She was sore, she was tired, and now she was cranky again. "I'm sorry...It...it's nothing personal, really, it's just..." She trailed off, rubbed her face with her hand. She didn't have the energy to explain, either. "I'm sorry..."

Hikaru sighed, grudgingly adding in his own, "Yea, I'm sorry too...even if you weren't so very...particular about it, we don't really know you well enough to say that, ne?" He glanced over to Kaoru and was relieved to see that he'd been busy talking with Matilda and didn't notice the small upset.

"I don't let anyone call me that, except Ojou-sama," Setsuna told him. "And it took me forever to even be comfortable with 'Setsuna,' so..."
