Rory wandered into the library earlier than she even had to be there, really, and positioned herself behind the desk.

Rory smiled and took the book to scan it. "Okay. It's due back in a week."

"And since it's this school, I'm betting something horrible happens if I'm late returning it," he said, trying to get the teasing tone back.

It didn't really work.

"Well, it used to be that Zero Hopeless-Savage would chase you down with a mallet," Rory said, completely serious.

Luke blinked.

"Seriously?"

"Seriously. She did it to Bel. It was hilarious," Rory said.

Luke had a mental image of how that might have played out and burst out laughing. "I can imagine," he said between snickers. "I'll be back here next week, just to be safe."

"Good plan," Rory said, "because then no one has to be malletted."

Luke picked up the book. "I'll see you soon," he promised with a small smile, then walked out of the library.
