Ethics [Thursday, October 26, 6th period]

Vader swept into the room precisely on time, the door slamming behind him like usual. "I trust that your time with your relatives was excruciating and uncomfortable. I do not care about your problems to begin with, and if you try to use them as an excuse for why your assignment is not complete, I will not care even more." The leather creaked in his gloves. "So don't try it." It wasn't a suggestion.

He paced in front of the classroom. "While I am interviewing you all separately--" the menace in his voice was completely intentional, "--the rest of the class will be discussing the Golden Rule. 'Do unto others as you would have done unto you.'" Vader snorted. "Hopelessly naive way to live your life or useful philosophy?"

It was very obvious which option Vader preferred.

He pointed towards the first student. "Let's begin."

Rory shrugged. "Tyler was a good master. He taught me well. And I punched him in the eye."

"Fighting is an art form," she recited. "I didn't know that. We had a sparring session. I'm supposed to use the pain to allow me to focus."

"Not really. Just normal sparring-type soreness," Rory said. "Should he have? I think he was easing me in so there was a false sense of security if he wanted to eventually hurt me."

"He didn't expect me to actually hurt him," Rory said.

Rory lied. "Yes."

She smiled. "He told me to use my anger at you to focus. So I did."

"Because I can't," Rory said in a very 'duh' sort of voice. "I'm not a very violent person, sir. I think Tyler figured that out."

"He's not a fan of being hit in the eye," she said.

"He underestimated me," Rory said, crossing her arms. "I caught him off guard because he either didn't think I'd do it, or that I'd hit that hard."

"No," Rory said. "But the initial underestimation was a mistake."

"Act even weaker," she said. "Granted, a lot of it isn't an act, but I have decent reflexes. Just because I don't believe violence is a good thing doesn't mean I'm this completely helpless little idiot. But I look the part."

"'Pretend inferiority and encourage his arrogance,'" she quoted, recalling her conversation with Luke.

"Not really. I like Tyler." Rory looked rather calmly at Vader. "Sun Tzu is quite applicable in my everyday life, though."

Rory gave him a cheeky little salute and skipped off to her desk.
