Ethics [Thursday, October 26, 6th period]

Vader swept into the room precisely on time, the door slamming behind him like usual. "I trust that your time with your relatives was excruciating and uncomfortable. I do not care about your problems to begin with, and if you try to use them as an excuse for why your assignment is not complete, I will not care even more." The leather creaked in his gloves. "So don't try it." It wasn't a suggestion.

He paced in front of the classroom. "While I am interviewing you all separately--" the menace in his voice was completely intentional, "--the rest of the class will be discussing the Golden Rule. 'Do unto others as you would have done unto you.'" Vader snorted. "Hopelessly naive way to live your life or useful philosophy?"

It was very obvious which option Vader preferred.

He pointed towards the first student. "Let's begin."

Vader inclined his head. "Was he too focused? Would it be easy to distract him in order to keep his mind off of your true intentions?"

"He did what I told him to do. Which of course could be a way to make me feel overconfident and too trusting." She paused fo a moment, not sure if she really wanted to reveal this to Vader. "I can make him talk about things he doesn't usually talk about. Apple sculpture is very relaxing."

"Impressive," Vader said. "That is a very useful insight. Did he seem eager to please?"

"Yes," River said.

Perhaps mentioning her mind reading abilities to Vader wasn't a good idea. So she didn't.

Vader knew anyway. He was evil and sneaky like that.

You could use that too, he thought at her. Eager to please are eager to mold.

River hadn't expected that. It was very disturbing. She cried out and slipped off her chair and hid under the desk.

Vader tilted his head to look under the desk, then shrugged and moved on.
