Detention, The Danger Shop, 10/07/06

Upon entering the danger shop, students were greeted with an ordinary looking room, empty except for an area in one corner that was set up with a table of breakfasty-type foods and some chairs. Once all of the students were on hand, however, the room's appearance changed, until it resembled the countryside of central Europe. Germany perhaps, or Austria.

Aziraphale smiled and nodded at each student, checking off their names from his list, and waited until everyone was assembled before beginning.

"Welcome to detention. Since I've been given to understand that this is meant to be a learning experience as much as it is a punishment, I've arranged a couple of scenarios for you today. This morning, you'll each face an...enemy, of a sort, in a different setting. How you deal with the encounter, how you ultimately defeat your enemy, is entirely up to you. I expect you each to draw upon the strengths and knowledge you possess.

After lunch, you'll be working together to overcome one additional challenge. Are there any questions?"

Once the students were all assembled together, the room shifted once more. This time, they were standing in a rather rundown city neighborhood. From someplace nearby, came the sounds of finger-snapping. Then from around a corner, appeared an entire group of...



Here come the Jets
Like a bat out of hell.
Someone gets in our way,
Someone don't feel so well!

Whatever they are, they seemed to be challenging the students. Tomatoes vs. Students. May the best dancers win.

Oh, hell yes! The Tomatoes were obviously ready to rumble, and they formed up their dance lines in front of the students. A little posturing and trash talks always has to come first, in a situation like this.

Oooh, not fair! That wasn't any kind of dance move! The Tomatoes scattered, jumping behind trash cans and ducking around corners. They didn't stay gone for very long though, and when they slowly began to reassemble, their body language was pretty unhappy.

They'd have all been scowling, if they'd had faces.

Bel summoned his athame. This was the only dance he knew. Except for the salsa, which wasn't appropriate. Okay, considering the enemies were tomatoes, maybe it was. But that was beside the point.

Ah, knives were more along their lines. A couple of the Tomatoes had them too, pulling switchblades from their pockets as they got back into their groove. It still looked as though they were more interested in the dancing than in the fighting, though.

One of them executed a jazz ballet sort of step-turn-leap, perhaps meant to present a challenge directly to Bel. And of course, the singing began again.

We're drawin' the line,
So keep your noses hidden!
We're hangin' a sign,
Says "Visitors forbidden"
And we ain't kiddin'!

Bel didn't sing or dance. But he did lunge forward, stabbing and slicing at the enemy.

The Tomato who'd challenged Bel was joined by two friends, both armed with switchblades. They executed a very neat lunge, stab, jazz square combination, in perfect unison.

A couple of Bel's strikes did hit the mark, though, and that put the dancers somewhat off their rhythm.

Here come the Jets,
Yeah! And we're gonna beat
Ev'ry last buggin' gang
On the whole buggin' street!

They were still cocky, though.

Blair blinked at the group and then looked around. "I believe you meant to say 'someone won't feel so well'."

The Tomatoes weren't big on grammar. Dancing was what was important, man! Still, they were a little offended by Blair's presumption, and once they'd returned from running for their lives from Bel's first fireball (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1055542.html?thread=58881078#t58881078), a couple of the Tomatoes stepped out from the group and presented a bit of fancy footwork as a challenge to Blair.

We're gonna jazz it up and have us a ball!

The more they turn it on the harder they'll fall!

Blair was totally confused by the fancy footwork. "Um....turn it on? Guys, I'm not really attracted to guy...uh..tomatoes."

The apparent disinterest in dance challenges exhibit by this rival gang was starting to depress the Tomatoes. One of them threw his hands up in disgust and turned away, kicking over a garbage can, but he was dragged back into formation by a couple of his buddies.

There was honor on the line here, and they would dance, dammit!

Blair's half of the gang reformed into a nicely staggered, two-deep line, and showed off with a little jazz ballet step-spin. Then they turned their tomato heads expectantly toward Blair.

"Oh! You want to dance!" Blair facepalmed as he got it and looked around. "Um...I really don't know how to do a lot of dances without partners. I'm really not thinking that Bel wants to waltz with me so...er..."

Blair snapped a few times and swayed. Not his best work so far.

It took the Tomatoes a couple minutes to realize that Blair was actually dancing. But everyone has to start someplace, and since the challenge was finally accepted, one of the Tomatoes stepped out in front of the line and executed a really spiffy looking step. While singing, of course.

"Wow, man. You guys are really good." Blair nodded slowly and tried the spiffy looking step...and fell down.

Hey, falling down was good for the Tomatoes! They responded by breaking formation and indulging in a little back-slapping and posturing. Obviously they were getting pretty cocky about this challenge.

Of course, they couldn't keep going if their rival was lying on the ground, so one of them finally walked over and offered Blair a hand.

Right, indeed. The Tomatoes that weren't being ginsued (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1055542.html?thread=58887734#t58887734) by Bel or Macarena'd (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1055542.html?thread=58894390#t58894390) into submission by Blair took up formation in front of Billy. There was some quick footwork and a little more posturing. And also some singing, just in case they getting their point across.

Billy shrugged and called to mind some fast paced music, and began to Salsa. And threw in a few flips and handsprings just for spice. Get it? Salsa? Spice?

Now that was more like it! The Tomatoes weren't really into salsa themselves (not yet, anyway), but they could appreciate good dancing.

The flips and handsprings were a little daunting, though. It forced a couple of the Tomatoes to throw in some leaps and splits.

Billy spun, and upped the tempo a bit, using nearby objects for added creativity. He leaped onto the hood of a car and then swung on a lamp post.

Wow. The Tomatoes were impressed, and realized they were going to have to up the ante a bit themselves. Of course, they weren't all quite up to the lamppost bit, although one of them tried it. And ended up on his ass in a pile of trash cans.

That created an interruption as the other Tomatoes couldn't resist a bit of laughter as their less agile friend, and it threw off their rhythm as well.

Point to the rival gang member with the sharp moves!

The confusion created by the one Tomatoes fall and the subsequent laughter meant that the others were slow to respond to Billy. There was a lot of jostling and a little name-calling as they tried to get back into formation, but they were completely out of step.

Two of them tried executing spins in unison, and failed completely. It was embarrassing, and the rest of the Tomatoes stopped dancing and stared.

Defeat. They threw up their hands and milled around, muttering.
