Detention, The Danger Shop, 10/07/06

Upon entering the danger shop, students were greeted with an ordinary looking room, empty except for an area in one corner that was set up with a table of breakfasty-type foods and some chairs. Once all of the students were on hand, however, the room's appearance changed, until it resembled the countryside of central Europe. Germany perhaps, or Austria.

Aziraphale smiled and nodded at each student, checking off their names from his list, and waited until everyone was assembled before beginning.

"Welcome to detention. Since I've been given to understand that this is meant to be a learning experience as much as it is a punishment, I've arranged a couple of scenarios for you today. This morning, you'll each face an...enemy, of a sort, in a different setting. How you deal with the encounter, how you ultimately defeat your enemy, is entirely up to you. I expect you each to draw upon the strengths and knowledge you possess.

After lunch, you'll be working together to overcome one additional challenge. Are there any questions?"

"Oh, hell no," Bel said.

Oh, hell yes! The Tomatoes were obviously ready to rumble, and they formed up their dance lines in front of the students. A little posturing and trash talks always has to come first, in a situation like this.

Here come the Jets:
Little world, step aside!
Better go underground,
Better run, better hide!

Bel's reaction? He summoned up a fireball and threw it.

Rumble this.

Oooh, not fair! That wasn't any kind of dance move! The Tomatoes scattered, jumping behind trash cans and ducking around corners. They didn't stay gone for very long though, and when they slowly began to reassemble, their body language was pretty unhappy.

They'd have all been scowling, if they'd had faces.

Bel summoned his athame. This was the only dance he knew. Except for the salsa, which wasn't appropriate. Okay, considering the enemies were tomatoes, maybe it was. But that was beside the point.

Ah, knives were more along their lines. A couple of the Tomatoes had them too, pulling switchblades from their pockets as they got back into their groove. It still looked as though they were more interested in the dancing than in the fighting, though.

One of them executed a jazz ballet sort of step-turn-leap, perhaps meant to present a challenge directly to Bel. And of course, the singing began again.

We're drawin' the line,
So keep your noses hidden!
We're hangin' a sign,
Says "Visitors forbidden"
And we ain't kiddin'!

Bel didn't sing or dance. But he did lunge forward, stabbing and slicing at the enemy.

The Tomato who'd challenged Bel was joined by two friends, both armed with switchblades. They executed a very neat lunge, stab, jazz square combination, in perfect unison.

A couple of Bel's strikes did hit the mark, though, and that put the dancers somewhat off their rhythm.

Here come the Jets,
Yeah! And we're gonna beat
Ev'ry last buggin' gang
On the whole buggin' street!

They were still cocky, though.

Bel shifted into demon form. If he was going to be facing multiple opponents, he wanted to be at full strength. He held the athame in one hand, conjured another fireball with the other, and threw.

The Tomatoes didn't know whether to run or keep dancing, and a couple of them ran into each other in their confusion. This resulted in a little shoving and obscene hand gestures until they sort themselves out.

All except for the one who'd been hit by the fireball. He was running around with his tomato head on fire, shrieking and flailing his arms.

Also, once again, Bel had sadly interrupted their singing.

Bel grinned evilly. After the aborted fight last night, he could use the exercise. He circled around the Tomatoes, picking out his next opportunity to strike.

Splitting off into two groups now, one group worked some nice jazz steps around Bel while the others executed their challenge to Blair (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1055542.html?thread=58885430#t58885430). A couple of the more aggressive ones, blades glinting in their hands, got in close enough to Bel to slash at him.

And to be within athame range, of course.

Bel growled and attacked. He didn't care if he got slashed; he was just intent on destroying his foes.

At this point, the dancing was really pretty much degenerating into an all-out knife fight. Bel, unless he was quick about avoiding them, would take a few cuts to the arms and chest. But the Tomatoes really were better dancers than fighters.

Also, they had very vulnerable heads.

It wasn't long before the only one left from Bel's group was the leader who'd started the challenge.

Bleeding from the cuts on his arms and chest, Bel faced his final opponent. "Bring it, bitch," he growled, then lunged forward, slashing for its head.

Having already dropped any pretense toward dance steps, the lead Tomato wove and slashed toward Bel. It didn't have any kind of snappy comeback, since all it knew was show tunes.

Also, it was definitely not Bel's match when it game to fighting. Despite its efforts to evade the attack, the Tomato would up taking the athame directly across the front of its head.

The theme of Bel's day seemed to be tomato guts, as they spilled out down his arm, and the Tomato dancer fell to the ground.

Bel shook his arm to get the tomato guts off, then turned around to look for something else to attack.

Perhaps unfortunately for Bel, the only other Tomatoes in the vicinity appeared to be engaged in a much friendlier dance-off with Blair.

But Aziraphale did wander up, careful to come around from an angle were Bel saw him approaching. "Very well done, Belthazor. You've completed your detention, and you may sign out and go, unless you want to stay around for a bit and speak to Mr Sandburg afterwards. Oh, and that...mess will vanish in just a moment, once this program thing is finished running."

Bel might have also noticed that his injuries were healed as well ~~unless Bel plottily wants to keep them~~. Probably not a good idea to send ones students away from detention only to have them head to the clinic.

"What was the point of that?" Bel growled.

"Did you enjoy it?" Aziraphale asked in reply.

He grinned, but it wasn't a pleasant grin. "Yeah, so?"

"So perhaps that was the point. Also, as this was supposed to be a punishment of sorts, I'm assuming you were suitably annoyed by the singing? Particularly from this morning?"

Bel calmed down enough to shift back into human form. His wounds were mostly healed but not completely. "Yeah, sure," he said. "It was annoying."

"Imagine hearing that every day, and you'll understand why I spend my time here," Aziraphale said dryly, with a little bit of a smile. "If you're trying to figure out if I was intending some sort of lesson for you today, then I'll tell straight out that I wasn't. Not any lesson that wasn't intended for everyone else as well -- try to keep out of the sort of trouble that lands you in detention."

Bel shrugged. "Already got it next week," he said. ~~I think.~~
