"I don't, no, but Aly said it was good to be able to do everything you can do with a Gift, without it, in case you're ever in a situation where you can't use it or need to be stealthy. She had a point."

Door nods. "Some of it I can't turn off, of course. And I don't know any way to make doors without magic." She looks thoughtful for a moment, then adds, "So I have a question that's not about locks - I've talked to everybody else and their cat about it, might as well ask in the library, right?"

"Well, it's more in the way of opinion than reference, so making one up would be fine." Door smiles. "Alanna says it's perfectly fine to go to the Homecoming dance without an escort, and Faithful says I should just locate an eligible straight boy and inform him that he's going with me. Somehow I feel there must be a happy medium. Or at least a list of eligible whatevers."

Door nods. "Yes, that was on the radio. The bit about Rory, I mean; they didn't give a rundown of your dancing history, as fascinating as that might be." She shrugs. "I don't mind going alone, but I think the handful of girls I was sort of going alone with have all managed to collect dates somehow."
