After watching the crowd gather and encouraging them to settle down long enough to listen to people talk, The Tick began to speak.

"Welcome, students and faculty, to our first assembly of the year! We'll be doing these to help impart something to our students. Give them advice, entertainment, and something worthwhile to do on a Friday afternoon!"

"Today you'll be getting advice from several speakers. They are motivational speakers, people who speak and give advice to help you better yourself! They are the tops in their individual fields, respective Everests, and this assemply is your sherpa, helping you scale that mountain to a better you!"

"Some of today's speakers are professional motivational speakers! Some are fellow students with some special advice! And one is a local business owner just looking to help out!"

"I think it's about time to let them do their jobs now. Please give the speakers your undivided attention and have some fun!"

[OOC: Each speaker will have their own thread, plus there will be a Q&A thread at the end of the post for them to ping into. Please wait to ask the speakers questions until the speakers have pinged in.

There are also a couple of general conversation threads for people who don't want to give their undivided attention. :)

"But I can make up for it with vodka," Jaye points out.

"Yeah, but then there's a hangover."

"Ick, don't say the H word," Jaye frowns. "Baaaaaad."

"Oh yeah?" Sam asked. "What happened?"

"Eight shots of tequila post-speed dating."

Sam winced. "That bad?"

"I think I'm done with tequila for good. All bad."

"I'm sorry to hear that. Dates too?" Sam didn't listen to the radio much.

"Dates went good. I'm going to homecoming with one of the guys. But the tequila. That's all bad."

She smiled. "Congratulations. Who, if you don't mind my asking? And you're not the first person I've heard say that."

"Eric Weiss," Jaye answers. "He has a better tolerance than me, apparently."

"Tolerance for what?" Because she thought they were talking about tequila, but with Jaye it was always good to check. "I haven't met him yet. Is he nice?"

"Booze tolerance. Which says something. He's nice," she says. "He called his mom on the date to tell her we were going to make out because I dared him to. We didn't make out, though."

Apparently this was some definition of "nice" that Sam didn't know about. "Did you want to make out?"

"Um," Jaye says, considering how to word this, "I'm not really thinking about making out with anyone right now mostly, but if I was, I wouldn't have been opposed."

It took Sam a minute or two to parse that. "I'm glad it's working out for you--Jack said you were kind of down."

"I had a rough couple of weeks," she shrugs. "Jack rules all. Just so you're aware."

"I know," she smiled. "And I'm glad you're better."

"Thanks," she says. "So what is up lately in the world of Sam?"

"The world of Sam has been surprisingly schmoopy of late. It's very strange."

"Schmoop?" Jaye says, grinning. "Really?"

"I scared the crap out of myself by accidentally telling Jack I loved him," Sam facepalmed. "I'm not sure he was thrilled at first, either."

"Oh, meep," Jaye says, and really can't imagine saying that to anyone. But she pats Sam's shoulder assuringly.

"I should have just signed his frelling death warrant," Sam muttered into her hands. "Worst part? It just slipped out. One minute, we were perfectly unacknowledged and amorphous, the next we were defined and confusing."

"Relationships are dumb," Jaye decides.
