The Library, 9/19

After a trip to the Perk to pick up a giant mocha, Isabel arrived to open the library for her first day on the job. She wasn't nervous. Much.

"Hi Evie!" Isabel waved. "How are you?"

Evie's smiled and headed over to the counter. "Hello, Isabel. Are you an aide here now? I was looking for maps of the Island."

"I am," she grinned. "Today is my first day. Hopefully I won't mess up too badly."

"Oh, I'm sure you shan't," Evie assured her. "At least, not unless you start a small fire or possibly lose a priceless manuscript or-- ahem. Anyway." Evie looked abashed. "Maps?"

"I think I'll be sticking to the desk mostly," Isabel laughed. "Just to avoid all that." She quickly checked for where maps would be located and then led Evie over to the appropriate area and pulled down the map. "Here you go. Are you looking for anything in particular?"

"An acceptable place for an archaeological dig. We'll probably need to get permits from the Town Hall, but I should like to have an idea of what to ask them for, and where to search for something to dig up." Evie gave a gleeful little smile. "Pending Dr. Jackson's approval, of course."

"Really?" she asked. "Well make sure you do a lot of research before you start digging. There's weird stuff around this island. Over the summer some people had to dig up and defeat a demon that had been buried under the main campfire of the camp."

"Really. Who buried it? And how long ago?" Evie clutched the maps to herself, looking intrigued. "And why did they dig it up? Wasn't it safer buried?"

"The local coven managed to bind the demon into the earth. I think it was about the time this area was first settled," Isabel explained. "Unfortunately over time the demon got his power back. This summer having the camp over his head must have wakened him because he started tormenting people with ghosts." She made a face, remembering how upset Bel had been. "A group of students managed to find him and destroy him with magic."

"Oooooo. That sounds horrible. And interesting. I would have been terrified, but oh, I would loved to have seen that," Evie said. "I shall be *most* careful, I promise, looking over the maps. And we won't dig anything up without a real permit from the City Hall. That way lies accusations of tombrobbing and archaeological slip-shoddiness."

"Stick around here long enough and you will," Isabel assured her. "When it's too quiet for too long, start getting worried. Permits would be good. You wouldn't want the sheriff on your case. She's scary."

"The sheriff's a woman? Ooo. I suppose if the things I've heard actually are true, she *has* to be scary, doesn't she." Evie cocked her head. "We're not looking for treasure or anything. Just the experience of a real dig site. So perhaps that will keep things from becoming complicated."

"She's very scary. You don't want to be on her bad side." Isabel smiled, "Well if you're not digging up valuable stuff then you should be fine."
