Waist-length hair takes a long time to brush out.

A really long time.

Yomiko was going over the paperwork for library aides. One of the applications was kind of disturbing, in that it looked to have been signed in blood.

Oh look, it's a library aide. Isabel stopped in after Biology and made her way to the main desk. "Good morning."

"Good morning," Yomiko said. "Can I help you?"

"Hi, I'm Isabel Evans," she said, holding out her hand. "I think you're my new boss."

"Oh, hi!" Yomiko said, taking Isabel's hand and shaking it. "Welcome aboard! I'm Ms. Readman."

"It's nice to meet you," Isabel smiled. "I'm really excited about the job."

"I'm excited about having you. I'm sure you'll be wonderful," Yomiko told her.

"Thanks. I think it'll be fun. When would you like me to start?"

"Ideally you'll start next week, but if you could come in for training as soon as possible, that would be really great."

"I have no problem with that," she said. "And I can come in Thursday for training ~~since that's my best RL day~~."

"All right," Yomiko said with a smile. "I'll see you then!"

"No, thank you, forgiving me the chance," Isabel replied. "Until Thursday then." Still smiling she left the library ~~and happily closed a tab~~.

Ms. Readman was reading a book on the history of Scotland, selected at random from a stack waiting to be reshelved.

Evie came bouncing in, then restrained herself to just walking, around Fourth Period. "Good morning Miss Readman!"

"Good morning, Evie! You seem to be in a good mood today."

"I am! I have an entire *day* to do nothing but read in the library. Do you happen to know where the History section for the Island is?" Evie looked hopeful, and folded her hands carefully, trying to look mature and research-oriented, instead of just thrilled to be in her favorite place.

"No, sorry, I haven't seen a local history section," Yomiko said sadly. She'd been looking for those books, too. "I think they might be in Special Collections, but you're welcome to look around. ~~Try 999, Extraterrestrial Worlds~~."

"Thank you, I will. And I'll ~~report back~~ let you know what I find," Evie assured her, going off to get lost in the really tall bookshelves.

About half an hour later, someone might have heard:

"Help? Oh, help. Help, help, help...."

Yomiko has very good hearing. "Hello? Is someone there?"

"Yes, please! I've um, rather had, an, um, accident..."

The sound of falling books might help someone find their way to Evie, down one of the longer columns of books.

Yomiko rushed toward the sound of falling books. When she found Evie, she said, "Oh, my..."

The movable spiral staircase was about five feet away from where Evie dangled from the top-most shelf, about fifteen feet off the ground. "Miss Readman!" Evie tried to smile, but then it settled into a grimace. "I was just reaching, for a book that was a litte out of my way-- I didn't want to get down and move the staircase, so silly of me-- and, and, I'm afraid I-- oops!" Another book fell as she tried to cling to the book case, one foot slipping off. "Overbalanced and kicked the staircase away, and, oh dear. I'm *so* sorry. I'll clean up the mess?"

Yomiko sighed and pushed the staircase over to where Evie could reach it. "It's all right, I've done it myself a time or two." Or ten. "Just be more careful in the future, all right?"

"Yes, ma'am," Evie said, finding her feet carefully, then climbing down the staircase on shaky legs. She sat on the bottom step and got her breath back, then looked mournfully at all the books. "Oh, look. I bruised them. I am sorry." She picked up a copy of Sophoclesm dusting it off carefully, then blinked and picked up a hardback Pliny. "Oooo. I didn't see this one."

"So some good came of your little adventure," Yomiko said with a gentle smile. "Are you all right?"

"Hmm? Oh, yes!" Evie jumped to her feet, and nearly tripped on her skirt again, then bent down to gather up the books she'd pulled down. "Thank you so much for helping. I didn't fancy a sprained ankle, letting go of the bookcase. I'm just *very* glad it could support my weight," she added earnestly.

"Yes, they seem very sturdy," Yomiko agreed. "Just doing my job!"

The library is closed for lunch. Out! Out I say!

Unless of course you're supposed to be here.

Yomiko was in her office, but the door was open. She was not taking a nap, except for how she totally was.

Ms. Readman was reshelving books. There's a little bell to ring on the desk if you need her, or perhaps another aide could help you?

Sam grinned at the sign as he made his way into the library. Not seeing anyone around, he rang the bell.

Yomiko came out of the stacks and smiled at Sam. "Can I help you?"

"I hope so," he said. "I'm Sam Winchester, one of the new aides."

"Oh, good!" Yomiko chirped, offering him her hand. "I'm Ms. Readman. It's so nice to meet you."

Sam smiled and shook her hand. "It's nice to meet you too. Uh, the sign on the door said something about training?"

"Yes, you need to come in for training, but I think the other library aides--the ones that aren't new--are supposed to help with that, and they're not here right now." She thought. She hadn't seen them around.

"Oh, okay. Would there be a better time for me to come in?" he asked ~~totally willing to take a handwavey answer if needed~~.

"Um, I'm not sure," Yomiko said. Then she consulted the schedule and *handwavily* told him to come back at such-and-such a time when she and one of the others would be here.

"That sounds great," Sam said, smiling again. "I'll see you then. And thank you again. I'm excited about this job."

"You're welcome," Yomiko said with a smile. "I'm sure you'll do great."

Yeah, books falling on your head? Hurts. In the future, Ms. Readman will try to remember to use a footstool ~~or Sam Winchester~~ to place books on high shelves.
