Intro to 21st Century American Culture - Monday - Period 5

When the students arrive, they see a row of tables along each side of the classroom. The row on the left has a number of telephones and the row on the right has a number of computers.

"Afternoon, everyone," Lorelai said once they'd all arrived and taken their seats. "Today we're going to learn about modern technology. Communication is a very important part of our society and, currently, the most efficient and widely used methods of communication are the telephone and the internet."

She went on to give a brief history of the telephone and the internet.

"Now, half of you can play with the phones and the other half can play with the computers. In twenty minutes, we'll switch, so everyone has a chance to try everything. Marty, Jaye and I will be around to help if you need it. And those of you who have already mastered these skills can offer help as well."

"And it'll be nice to have a class that one can ace with very little effort, eh?" Lyra asked shrewdly. She grinned.

"Alright. So, say I wanted to send an email to you. What would I do?"

Mac laughed and nodded, "Yeah, that too. It's the same reason I took the internet class. Easy, fun, and I get to be TA in that one. It's great."

"Right, to send me an email, you click 'compose' up at the top there. Then, type Cindy dot Mackenzie at fandomhigh dot net in the address box up here. Your message goes in the box in the middle, and just press 'Send'." Mac nodded towards the computer. "You want to try?"

"Brilliant." After one or two false starts, Lyra managed to type out a simple thank you note for Mac, probably boring her to tears as she hunts and pecks for letters. At least she's used to English, she saw Luke somewhere typing with a dictionary's aid. She hit 'send,' and sat back triumphantly.

"How'd I do?"

[ooc: omg, most addicting game evar.]

Mac grinned, "You did good! Congratulations on an email well sent. I should find that in my inbox when I next check. It'll get easier, I promise."
