Well, yes, but Pete did actually have the presense of mind not to launch into a rant about his missing piece so fiddle my knees. Barely.

"Not that you need to concern your pretty little head over, ma'am. But I do thank you for asking."

Yep, still not looking at her face.

Gwynn shook her head and then reached out and lightly tapped his cheek, then lifted his chin in her hand.

"My eyes are up here," she said, looking at him. "I am positive that whatever you have lost is not down the front of my chest, Pete."

Pete sputtered. "My--my apologies, ma'am. I am entirely unaccostomed to being in the presense of such beauty."

Dixie would kill him if she heard him say that. . . .

Still, he managed to maintain eye contact for a full 27 seconds before his eyes drifted southward again. That's like a new record for a woman who wasn't actively out to kill him or essentially taken by someone who was.

Gwynn had to smile and then she sighed, slapping him lightly again. "My eyes are up here."

Did she just hit him again? She did! She hit him again!

Pete's eyes snapped up. "Cut that out!"

Aaaaand drifted down.

Gwynn couldn't believe he was this... dense? Was that the right word?

She tapped his cheek again. "Then quit asking for it."

Three! Three times!

"You'd best be glad that I don't believe in strikin' a woman, girlie. Also that I happen to enjoy such behavior."

His eyes, miraculously, stayed up.

She didn't look the least bit sorry.

"My name, is Gwynn. And if you don't want to get hit again, you will remember that my eyes are not on my shirt.... or down it."

The she grinned at him.

Pete studied her for a moment, then grinned back.

"What if I do wanna get hit again?"

Gwynn looked at him and then she chuckled.

"If you want me to hit you again I am confident that you will find a way, Pete."

Pete peered at her (face). "Your accent is English, but you got yourself a frontier attitude. Where are you from?"

"Briton, 1199," she said with a smile. "Where or when are you from?"

Wasn't it amazing how easily she was getting used to that response?

"Former Oregon Territory, 1894. Are you familiar with outdoorsmanship?"

Gwynn smiled. "I was raised in the forests of my land, Pete," she said with a nod.

"Got any idea what an 'internet' is?"

Gwynn shook her head. "I've heard about it, but I know very little. I keep thinking about asking someone to show me what one is."

There were things that Pete had managed to find that he wouldn't mind showing her. . . .

"Darlin', I think this may be the beginnin' of something beautiful."

Ohhhh, but there went his eyes again. . . .

Gwynn was liking this guy, which is why her smack wasn't nearly as hard as it should be.

"Peeeeete...."

"Yes'm!" Pete jerked his head back up and smiled. "My apologies again, darlin'. Force o' habit."

"Yes'm. May I join you at your table for this mid-day meal?"

Gwynn gave him a smile and a nod. "I'd be delighted if you did so."

"Why thank you, Gwynn." Look at her face, look at her face, look at her . . . neck . . . shoulders . . . bre-- He jerked his head up all on his own and smiled. "I'm honored."

Gwynn's lips twitched as she noticed his eyes, but said nothing... and didn't smack him. After all, he had brought his eyes back to her face all on his own this time.

"So what do you think of Fandom, Pete?"
