Library [09/07]

Rory shuffled into the library with her laptop and several notebooks as well as highlighters, pens, pencils, protractors, erasers, and textbooks.

She actually had homework to do again. Best time of the year.

It was a bit early, so all Rory got accomplished was highlighting a few things in a notebook.

But now she'd moved on to copying things diligently from a textbook.

And of course, those notes had to be highlighted.

Rory couldn't believe she'd forgotten to write her name in all her books. That clearly needed to be corrected.

Rory had a muffin, some cookies and a thermos of coffee. Totally a healthy lunch.

And now she was chewing on her pen and doing Google searches on things like, "How to tangle someone's cape so they trip," and "Sneaky revenge for dummies."

It wasn't going very well.

And woe, for Rory went to Ethics class during sixth period. Perhaps someone else was available to assist?

Rory was back. And wow, did she not look happy.

"Good morning, Rory," Yomiko said as she entered the library.

But do not fear, for Ms. Readman was here to help!

Willow stopped by before her 3rd period class. "Hey, Rory. Did I hear a rumor that applications for library aides are open?"

"Morning, Ms. Readman!" Rory said cheerfully, waving a highlighter contentedly.

"You did!" Rory said, smiling and snagging one off the stack (http://agentthepaper.livejournal.com/1459.html) on the counter. "Are you going to apply?"

"What are you up to this fine morning?" Yomiko called over her shoulder as she went into her office to leave her briefcase.

Door has a stack of books. Well, actually she has two stacks of books - she's returning The History of the Sweater and Dewey & the Decimals, Learning Games and Activities and checking out A comparative guide to the Library of Congress and Dewey decimal classification systems, Divided by a Common Language: A Guide to British and American English, and The Princess Bride by S. Morganstern (the non-abridged and boring version with more politics and lessy kissy parts, but she doesn't know that yet).

She also has a library aide application, which she brings up to the counter atop all of that. "Hello," she says quietly to Rory. "Am I meant to turn this in here? Or directly to the librarian?"

"Just try and stop me!" Willow said. She started filling the form out. "Do you think it would help if I included chocolate with my application?"

"It certainly wouldn't hurt," Rory told her seriously.

Willow had totally come prepared for this eventuality. "How many candy bars do you think?"

"Oh, here's fine," Rory says distractedly before glancing up and saying," Oh my God, you're the hurt girl from the sixth floor. Hi! Are you feeling all right?"

"One for each of the people working here," Rory said solemnly. "So three, I would say."

Willow slipped three candy bars out of her backpack. "There we go. One application, complete with gifts that we shall not sully by calling them bribes."

"Highlighting!" she said brightly. "I have notes that are un-highlighted! This has to be fixed."

"Oh no, definitely just gifts," Rory agreed. "'Bribes' is such an ugly word."

"Awful, really," Willow said with a sage nod. "It hurts the candy bars' feelings, you can tell."

Door slides the application across the counter and does some quick mental arithmetic. "I am, yes, thanks. Would you be Rory?"
