Internet for Dummies, Wednesday 9/6, 3rd Period

Abby settled on the front desk in the computer lab and smiled at the class. "Welcome to Internet for Dummies. Which is not an insult or anything, just my attempt at being funny."

She looked out over the class. "This would be the part where you all agree and laugh along with me."

"Today we're going to take it slow. Especially considering that not everyone here knows how to use computers. So we're going to team up and do reports on what the internet is all about." Abby read off the groups lists and waited for everyone to move around.

"I want you guys to talk about what you already know about the internet. What it does, how it helps you and what you want to learn from it." Abby passed out handouts. "If you don't know about the internet, then you can use this handy piece of paper as a cheat sheet."

"Good! Disappointed that we can only take five classes and the he er, I couldn't get fit yours in. How are your new students?"

"I understand, Broots. I won't hate you forever." Abby teased. "They...it's rough. Half of them have never even used a computer and one boy poked his! Poked!"

"You're more than welcome to come crash class whenever you want. I consider the computer lab to be a geek refuge."

Broots looked at horror at the idea of poking. "Please tell me he didn't poke the screen! And yeah, computer labs usually are. Do you need any help setting anything up or anything for next week?"

Abby shook her head. "He did, it was awful."

"Next week we're going to discuss ISP's and how to get on to the internet, so if you want to come and hook up some computers to different ISP's that'd be great!"

Abby pointed out Pete. "He likes cheese, I think that must be why his fingers are greasy."

"That's excellent. Having a life is very overrated."

"...He's my school assigned slightly crazy little brother. I'll see if I can attempt to explain to him the rule of 'no poking the screen'." Broots nodded. "Who needs one anyway?"

"Excuse me, Professor Abby?" Evie looked very shame-faced. "I am *so* sorry. I didn't check my new voicemail messages yesterday, so I didn't know to stop by and check out a 'laptop.' Is it too late? Are they all gone?"

"Not a problem at all, Evie!" Abby smiled. "We've got tons left. Just need to fill out this form."

Abby passed over a form and leaned forward to whisper. "Actually, since you're picking out one today you get to pick whether you want this grey number or this snazzy blue one!"

"Ooo! Blue!" Evie bounced, then settled down to fill out the form, and said, "Thank you ever so much. Isabel and Dr. Jackson both showed me a little, but is there anything else I need to know?"
