Intro to 21st Century American Culture - Monday - Period 5

Lorelai, of course, has a very large mug of coffee in her hands as her students file in. She smiles at them brightly and waits until they've all taken their seats before beginning to speak.

"Good afternoon!" she greets. "I'm Lorelai Gilmore-Danes. I realize that's a mouthful and I have no problem with any of you calling me Lorelai. If you're not comfortable with that I'll answer to Ms. Gilmore or Ms. Danes, but you definitely don't need to use the whole thing, okay?"

She put her mug down passed out papers to each student. "This is your syllabus. It's more of a guide than it is set in stone, so it may change after we talk today."

After passing out the papers, she sat on the edge of her desk and picked up her mug again. "Now, I'm guessing most of you are from other times and places. I'll best be able to help you if you tell me where and when you're from and what you want to learn from this class."

"I'm Belthazor," Bel said. "I'm from the Underworld, present time. I'm hoping to learn more about being human because I'm only half-human myself. I'm half-demon and spent most of my life in the Underworld, so I don't get a lot of the references people make to pop culture."

"Lyra Belacqua. "Lyra had to fight the urge to stand up beside her seat when she said it. "I'm from Oxford, England in another world. A 'not as advanced as this one' England. I've actually been to this world before, though, once or twice.

"I'm figure, if I'm going to spend the last four years of school before university, I'd better be able to handle myself."

[ooc: I have classes from 10-11, and 12-2, but other than that, I'll be free. Between 11-12, I'll be on constantly, after 2 is a bit more sporadic.]
