World History in a Nutshell - Week 1 (09/04)

It's entirely possible that Daniel is looking a wee bit jetlagged at the front of the class and is clutching at a cup of coffee like it's a lifeline.

He smiles as the class files in, leaning against his desk. Once they're all seated, he begins.

"Good afternoon and welcome to World History in a Nutshell. I'm Dr. Jackson, and I'll be taking you through this whirlwind tour of the history of Earth. On your desks is a copy of the tentative syllabus

First of all today, I'd like to go around the room and have everyone do a quick introduction so I can put names to faces."

After that was done, Daniel dimmed the lights.

"We're going to start off with an easy class on prehistory today. I have a documentary, which is about human evolution.

Once that's finished, I'm happy to take any questions and then you can take the Caveman Challenge. I'll be interested to see what percentage you'll get at the end."

[[ooc: Crashing soon and thus will pick up tags when I awaken again. Will also be working from ~2.30- ~10.00 EST]]

Evie grinned and nodded vehemently. "It's wonderful! Dr. Jackson seems awfully nice," hopefully he couldn't see the blush, there, "And I've only heard half of this information before, and the film is *so* much better than I'm used to, and--" She gestured emphatically, looking thrilled, "Did you hear what he said about the archaeology club?"

"He is awesome!" Blair didn't mention the slight blush but resolved to make sure Dr. Jackson didn't make any advances on his little sis. "I heard about that! It sounds like a great idea, Evie."

"And outside activities are supposed to be a way of really participating in school." Evie smiled at Blair, then admitted, "I'm still feeling a little out-of-the-loop here. There's so *many* people."

"I thought so too when I first came here, but it's actually much smaller than most high schools." Blair nodded. "Outside activites should help you get to know people better, and make new friends."

"How was your weekend?"

"It was rather nice, I think. I attended the auditions for the new band on Saturday. There's so very *many* talented people here. Agnes, one of the other new girls, was *tremendous*. I do hope she got in." She bounced a little, then sobered. "And I went on an exploration of the 6th FLoor with some people, until we found a girl who'd gotten hurt up there. That was... rather less tremendous." She shook her head. "How was your weekend?"

"Did you try out for the band?" Blair asked. "That's great. Agnes seems really cool. You found a girl on the sixth floor? I didn't know anyone lived up there."

Blair smiled. "An okay weekend for me, went into town yesterday to stalk troopers hang out."

"I don't think she was living up there," Evie said cautiously. "She fell out of a door, and her arm was cut up. The others took her to the clinic." She smiled a little. "And no, I don't have any musical talent to speak of. And-- 'cool'? Right! Keen! I remember that." She frowned. "'Hang out'?"

"Ouch." Blair frowned. "That's too bad that your first adventure was marred by that, but yay for you guys being there to help her! That's great!"

"Hang out means when you go somewhere or are with someone. We're hanging out together right now. We're hanging out in class. We hung out and talked." Blair bounced. "That would be your vocabulary lesson for the day."

"Seely Booth and Hermione Granger did most of it," Evie said, then brightened. "But it was rather exciting, if she'd okay." She nodded carefully, and wrote down 'hang out' in the margins of her notes, looking a little embarassed. "Thank you for explaining it to me, Blair. I swear, I shall know all the new slang in time. I enjoy 'hanging out' with you."

Blair grinned at the note taking. "I enjoy hanging out with you too, Evie. And don't worry, we all are learning something new everyday!"
