Flight and Flying [Friday morning]

When the flight workshop arrived at the shed, they found it locked up tight and Anakin leaning up against it.

Wearing a beanie.

And a sullen expression, but that was kind of a given.

"For our last class," he said, "we're going to fly helicopters. The pilot's waiting for us over at Selkie Cove. Come grab a hat--and no, they're not optional--and then we'll head over together."

He even had one Faithful-sized. Anakin was thorough.

Anakin made a frustrated sweep of his hand to what he was wearing. "They're in a rut," he said. "I'm here to shake things up." He shrugged. "At least in some way. There wouldn't be a prophecy otherwise, right?"

"You've got a prophecy? That's... kinda cool."

"I'm a Chosen One," Anakin said with a wry smile, "along with half the school, it seems."

"Yeah, it does seem sometimes like us non-Chosen kids are in the minority," Dean said wryly. "So what does your prophecy say? That you're going to kick ass and take names?"

"That I'm going to bring balance to the Force," Anakin said. "Only no one's exactly figured out what that means." He paused. "Me included."

".... maybe it means you're going to be some sort of metaphysical accountant?"

Anakin laughed. "That might be the only theory that hasn't been offered," he said. "But yeah, being a walking embodiment of prophecy hasn't exactly endeared me to the other Jedi. Some of them aren't even sure it applies to me."

"They're just jealous that they don't have an accountant prophecy of their own," Dean said, waving a hand and dismissing them. "Seriously, Anakin, fuck them. Just do what you want to do, make the decisions you want to make because they feel right, not because you think it's what some prophecy says you're supposed to do. Prophecies aren't things you can pass or fail at. If you are the Chosen One, the prophecy's going to be about what you would do naturally. And if you aren't and it's a case of mistaken identiy, you'll still be doing what you think is right." He paused. "Which better include keeping in touch with people here."

Anakin nodded. "I won't say I'll try," he said, "because Jedi either do something or we don't. If there is any way for me to keep in touch, I'll take it." He gave Dean a smile. "There are too many good people here to lose track of."

"Yeah." Dean glanced at Anakin. "Going to be one less soon."

Anakin's cheeks went red. "Thanks," he said quietly. "But give it a couple of weeks, you'll hardly know I was ever here."

"Optimism" and "Anakin" had never been particularly well acquainted.

Dean snorted. "Yeah, we're all gonna get amnesia and be all 'Anakin who?'" He shook his head. "Pretty sure that's not going to happen."

Anakin smiled. "Maybe I should put up a statue in the park in my own honor or something, just to be sure."

"I'm sure the ducks would appreciate it," Dean joked.

"That settles it, then," Anakin replied, eyes sparkling. "I'll get started on it right now."

Dean grinned. "You gonna go for something in stone or a nice elegant looking bronze?"

"Stone," Anakin said, nodding. "At least fifty feet tall. Possibly visible from space. Might as well go for the gusto, right?"

"Why not? You could have a saber in one hand and an abacus in the other. Y'know, for your grand future as metaphysical accountant."

Anakin grinned. "I can see it already. One hell of an eyesore. It'll be great."

"Until it comes to life and tries to stomp the school." Dean grinned. "This being Fandom and all."

"Guaranteed immortality," Anakin said, laughing. "'Remember when Anakin crushed the Humanities wing?'"

Dean chuckled. "They'll add you to the spiel they give to new students: wee tiny bunnies, mummies, jello dragons and the giant Anakin that took out Humanties."

"Perfect," Anakin said. "I definitely want to be part of the tour."

Dean nodded. "Of course, the statue will have had to be destroyed when it went on the war path so that all that's left are your feet. But they'd become the new makeout spot in the park."

Anakin laughed. "Perfect, considering the whole 'no attachments' part of the Jedi lifestyle."
