Library, Thursday, 8/24

For old time's sake, Angela has found one of the signs from last year that tells students to turn in their books before the semester ends or get malleted and hung it on the door. She hasn't thought of what to do if someone really wants to be malleted; hunt down Zero, she supposes.

It also occurs to her that the new librarian, whoever it is, will probably want to use their office as more than a holding cell for junk mail and dust bunnies, so she's slowly, slowly cleaning up in there when she can't find anything better to do, like staring into space or trying to plan out her weekend. It's a little amazing how much fur there still is back there.

"Cam!," Angela exclaimed. "Happy birthday." Because she was almost totally sure Molly had said it was today.

"Thank you!" Cameron said, his grin broadening as he put the books on the counter. "Best birthday ever!"

"Already?," Angela asked, taking the books and processing the return. "What happened?"

"Kawalsky and Molly took me to the nearest Air Force base," he bounced on his feet. "I got to fly in an F-16. It was awesome!"

"That would be the best present ever for you," Angela said. "Did they let you fly it, or sit in the cockpit, or what?"

He shook his head, but he didn't seem too bothered by it. "I got the co-pilot's seat," he replied. "But they took me up pretty high and the pilot showed off some neat tricks."

"And in a couple years, you'll be the pilot," Angela said. "Sounds awesome."

She reached into her bag. "My present is not that exciting, but I thought you might think it was cool."

"I'm already excited that you got me something," Cameron told her, beaming as he accepted the gift.

Apparently he wasn't the type to patiently open gifts as he ripped right into the paper and laughed as he unfolded the t-shirt to look at the print. "This is awesome. Thank you," he grinned and tilted his head. "Do I get a birthday hug too?"

"If you twist my arm about it," Angela said, going around the counter for a hug. "Molly mentioned the plane thing but I wasn't sure it'd happen. I'm really glad it did."

It was a safe bet that his smile wasn't going to go away any time soon. He happily hugged Angela. "Me too! They dragged me out this morning, I had no clue what was going on! I could hardly believe it when they let us on the base, let alone let me into one of their planes! So cool!"

Cam being this happy made Angela smile too. "How long were you up for?"

"A bit over an hour," he beamed. "Felt like forever and at the same time way too short, you know?"

"Some things are like that," Angela said. "Sometimes I get that from music." Or when she was with Marty, but ... yeah. Not sharing that thought.

"Good things are like that," Cameron decided.

"Definitely," Angela said. "So are you doing anything else for your birthday?"

"Not really, I just promised Veronica that I'd drop by Caritas so she could buy me a drink but that's pretty much it," he said with a shrug.

"It's her last day there, so I might stop by too," Angela said. "Can't believe the seniors are all going."

"Yeah, I know it's going to be so weird," Cameron grimaced and that did diminish his smile but he didn't want to think about it too much. "If you drop by Caritas, I'll buy you a drink."

"I'll take you up on that," Angela promised.

"Cool," he smiled and motioned to the books. "Are those in order."

"Completely," Angela said. "Learn anything interesting?"

He nodded. "Pretty much that we're screwed if most of those monsters invade. And you're best of with either a sword or a flamethrower if they do show up."
