Harper tapped a control and the virtual workshop expanded in size.

"Now, when you're a mechanical genius like myself," he said without any trace of false modesty. "You'll often be asked to create physics defying contraptions on the fly. Often with parts that are, well, junk. Turning trash into treasure is perhaps your most valuable survival skill. Your job today is to take the parts in this room and create something that might help you survive. No weapons."

"I think that falls under the weapons category," Cameron points out.

"Yes, but a weapon's the most useful thing you can have," she insists.

"What if you're locked in a building with no one to fight and a bomb about to go off?" Cameron says. "A weapon's not going to help you disarm it." Not that he knows what is going to disarm the bomb. Probably Sam.

"That depends on the type of explosive and whether or not wires need to be cut," she points out, holding up the piece of metal perfect for cutting. "Though really, at that point your objective should be to get out of the building, and unless you know there's no one there, you should still be armed."

"True," Cameron sighs and looks over at Harper. "Do you think he'll buy it if I plead not being a mechanical genius and that I'll make sure to keep one handy while on missions?"

"No. Especially since you're arguing against weapons and your mechanical genius may already be dead."

"I'm not arguing against weapons. I'm in favour of weapons, it's just that Harper said we can't make any," he shrugged.

"That's probably a smart plan. Keep the weapon as backup," Cameron pointed out.

Aeryn has no idea why anyone would think of a weapon as backup.

Poking around some more, she picks up a long piece of metal and says, "See. Here. Could be used to pry things open like a lever, or to hit people with."

"Multiple uses. That's pretty good," Cameron nodded and picked up a random part from the pile. He had no clue what it was supposed to be.

"It's a personal shield. It will make me invisible," Cameron said.

She knows that look. "Uh huh. I need my sanity today, so I'm going to be over there," Aeryn says.
