The Kludge's Guide to the Universe | Dangershop, Wednesday Afternoon (Week 4)

"Now that you've mastered the art of the clever escape, it's time to master the speedy one."

Harper tapped a control, bringing up the empty cells from last week. "After all, breaking out of your cell is only the beginning."

"Your objective today is to make it to the spaceport on the other side of this dangerous, seedy city. You can split up, stay together, try to meet up with other escapees, then beg, bluff, and bribe your way though the city. One caveat though, keep violence to a minimum, not only does it attract attention, attacking your pursuers makes it personal. This goes double for deaths. You kill someone? You fail the exercise, as does everyone you're with at the time."

[ooc: The guards and inhabitants of the city are moddable for the most part ~~since I'm kinda brain dead tonight~~ but there might be a surprise or two.]

She blew her hair out of her eyes. "Fine. You get to do this next time, though, Captain United States."

Sam stomped over to the nearest vendor, and using hand motions, she found out that they weren't going anywhere until she bought an incredibly overpriced piece of statuary. She dug in her pocket and frowned at what she found. "Cameron? Do you have any money? All I've got is a five."

Cameron rifled through his pockets. He dug out some spare change which added up to the grand sum of $4.68, lots of lint and... gum.

The merchant brightened when he saw the gum and started babbling at Cameron, pointing to it and grinning.

"Looks like you're up," Sam grinned at him.

Finally someone who understood the importance of gum. Cameron moved up to the merchant and started arguing with him. Well, mostly making wide hand gestures and some of them must have been insults because the merchant got red in the face and flapped his arms about wildly.

Still, somehow Cameron managed to get himself not only a statue, three wooden cups, a cool pen that wrote backwards and a silly hat, he also landed them a map. Apparently gum was valuable on this planet.

Smirking, he turned back towards Sam. "So, how does this rate on the Jackson scale?"

"You're going to make us need a whole new scale," Sam said, impressed. "Nice hat. What does the map say?"

"Uh," Cameron put the hat on and tucked the pen away as he tried to balance his loot. He opened the map and blinked. "I have no clue," he said as he realised that of course it was in alien.

Sam peeked over Cameron's shoulder. Not only was it necessary, but it made them look even more like tourists. "Okay, we don't have the language skills we need, so we need to look for landmarks."

She pointed to the center of town. "Okay, that's the well," she looked down at the map, "so that's the center. Now all we need is an intersection."

"I think that's the street we just came out of," Cameron said, pointing on the map. "So then we'd be about here? So if you were an alien, how would you write 'spaceport'?"

"I wouldn't," Sam mused, still studying the map, "but I might put it further away from town. Maybe in a clearing. Feel like a walk?"

"Do I have a choice?" Cameron asked. "At least security might be less there."

"Or more," Sam shrugged as she folded the map, always optimistic.

"Don't worry, my hat will blinde them to our presence," Cameron assured her and started walking in a direction leading away from the center.

"Always a plus in hats," Sam snickered, walking quickly to catch up. "And no fair, your legs are longer."

Her extra two inches in height couldn't get there soon enough.

"They're good legs," Cameron agreed, ignoring the looks his hat was getting from the people around them. At least the troopers seemed to think they were just harmless idiots or something and the quickly ignored him.

Sam couldn't ignore the looks from the people around them, but she was playing the part of the blonde girlfriend type person, so she didn't have to.

"They are good legs," she agreed. "Just move them a little more slowly."

"Sorry, dear," he said with a smirk, slowing down a bit. "Okay, if I was a spaceport, I'd be somewhere spacey but available."

"And that would be..." Sam turned in a circle, looking around, "maybe towards the water?"

"Oooo, access by ship too. Smart thinking," he nodded and changed direction to head towards the river. The crowd here was already starting to thin as they were moving away from the shops.

"Thanks," Sam said, walking towards the river. "Other than the escaping part, this hasn't been so bad, huh?"

"I feel that if I agree, someone is going to come up and shove me in the water and steal my hat," Cameron said, suspiciously.

"Why would I want that hat?" Sam shielded her eyes from the sun as she looked at him. "I mean, not that it's not very fashion-forward..."

"You're not someone," Cameron paused and blinked at her. "Are you planning to push me in the water?"

Sam looked at him innocently. "Of course not. That would be wrong."

"Yeah, it would be," Cameron agreed and glanced over Sam's shoulder noticing a patrol passing. "Dude, this place has more security Fandom."

"It's also got a prison," Sam nodded, also keeping an eye on the patrol, "but I bet Tex can still kick ass and take names here."
