Lying and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, Class #4

Jarod was waiting with his hands behind his back as the class arrived. "Hello again. I hope you've all recovered from having to tell the truth last week," he smirked, "because this week you'll be lying yourselves sick."

"You've shaded the truth so much that it's no longer believable, or someone has checked your references--in any event, you've been found out. Your job during this class is to either pair up or have a group of three of you, and for one of you to make the other person or people believe that you know what you're talking about. It's your job to get yourself out of whatever trouble you've gotten yourself into. But it's your partner's job to come up with the scenario."

"You're teenagers, so hopefully I won't have to tell you how to lie, but I'm here if you have questions."

[ooc: Not here until 6 pm EST. The way this works is: Partner 1 confronts Partner 2 with the scenario that's been flubbed. Partner 2 lies his or her way out of it.]

"Not to blaspheme a religious icon!" exclaimed Elizabeth. "Do you know what I had to go through with the Archdeacon?"

Briar blinked a few more times and then tried for something new. "I'm sure my parents donated enough money last year to make up for your troubles."

"Unless your parents also donated a new roof and altar to St. John's, I doubt that," remarked Elizabeth dryly. "You do realize that this will have to go in your permanent record?"

Briar grinned and leaned forward. "I'm sure that we can work something out. After all, you have no proof that it was even except for Sally's word."

"There were fingerprints found by the CSI team at the small of Mary's back," said Elizabeth. "They're being compared to the ones in your file even as we talk now."

"And you said my parents didn't give enough if you have the resources to do something like that?"

Elizabeth smiled sweetly. "Different areas of the school have different budgets, I'm afraid," she said. "The Department of Government leads in functional expertise rather than the size of it's budget, which rather pales in comparison."

"I'm sure some compromise can be achieved. After all, I still do have those photos..." Briar smirked, very proud at incorporating a bit of new technology.

Elizabeth didn't blink once. "Whatever photos exist of Janet and myself are hardly cause for blackmail," she drawled.

Briar smirked. "I'm sure the director would disagree."

"The director is well aware of our relationship," said Elizabeth calmly. "Besides, the District has laws which prevents discrimation in both private and public companies from discriminating against workers because of their sexual orientation."

"It's not the sexuality, it's the ... location that the director might find ... questionable."

"Private property."

"I'm sure the school grounds belong to someone."

"I'd have to look into that."

Briar burst out laughing.

Elizabeth tried very hard not to snicker and managed it. Mostly.

Briar tried to add something else to his story but wound up laughing instead.

Elizabeth started to giggle herself. "Okay, I think we're finished now."

Briar nodded. "So who's Janet? And a what's a virgin Mary?"

Elizabeth grinned. "Janet's my girlfriend," she said. "And the Virgin Mary was the mother of Jesus who is venerated by Catholics. Some Catholic churches will have statues of her and we pray to her, most commonly with Hail Mary or Ave Maria."

"Okay, no idea about the stuff that sounded religious. But I am amused by your weaving life into our little crazy scenario. Want to switch roles?"

"It's always easier to remember if you keep some element of the truth to it," said Elizabeth, smiling. "And yeah, sure."
