Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

[Yes, the schoolgrounds have snow. I'm weathermodding and saying it's cool enough today through this evening for it to stick, and it'll melt overnight. And yes, we're having Festivus in July. For those not in the know, here is a handy Wiki link! ~~Please wait for OCD.~~ Up, yay!]

"You taught this morning," she reminded him. "And I told Dean Tick I'd do it, so it's fine. But that's why I didn't come by with snacks or anything."

"I missed you," Anakin said. "But now I have a plate of..." he looked down at it. "Actually, I have no idea what I have a plate of."

"Gingerbread," she noted, stealing a piece. "And assorted other things."

"Is gingerbread good?" Anakin asked, poking at it with a finger.

"I like it," she said. "It's very Christmassy."

"Good to know," Anakin said, popping a piece in his mouth. "Mmm," he said.

"So, how do we feel about the snow?" she asked, looking around critically. "I have no idea how any of this turned out."

"I love the snow," Anakin said, eyes shining. "But I might be a tad biased on that particular issue."

"Snow is the best thing ever," Rory said happily. "It's beautiful and makes everything quiet and it smells like snow."

"It would be weird if snow smelled like something else," Anakin said with a small smile.

"You know what I mean. Rain smells nice too," Rory said, poking the snow with the tip of her shoe.

Anakin grinned down at her. "Shame it's sunny," he said. "Vladdie would love this."

Why yes, he was remembering a different snowy day. That's why he had a doofy look on his face.

"He would. Maybe he would get mud on your face again," she said, grinning.

Why yes, she knew what he was thinking of.

"Hopefully someone would come along and let me know," he replied, "and not cruelly rub snow in my face or something."

"As I recall, someone was very nice and got mud off your face with their thumb, causing their poor little hand to be all cold. Wasn't that nice of them?" Rory said, smirking.

"Someone had been an idiot and had been expecting something rather different than a helping hand," he admitted.

Rory raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

Anakin blushed.

Rory smiled softly.

I never knew that. I'm an idiot, she thought at him, blushing hard.

"Um, that's interesting," she said aloud, looking around. "Want to play in the snow now?"

At the time, there was Logan, Anakin replied. I was pretty sure I was just being ridiculous.

In response to her question, Anakin leaned down to scoop up a handful of snow, then tossed it at her with a grin.

Rory ducked.

This resulted in the snow hitting her straight in the face.

Nice ducking, Rory.

"Spuh."

Anakin cracked up.

He's such a nice guy.

That would be when Rory threw a handful of snow at him.

Anakin ducked the snow, then tried to pounce on her.

Too bad about the tripping, really.

It was really too bad Rory was in the way when he tripped, and thus went down with him. "Oof."
