Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

[Yes, the schoolgrounds have snow. I'm weathermodding and saying it's cool enough today through this evening for it to stick, and it'll melt overnight. And yes, we're having Festivus in July. For those not in the know, here is a handy Wiki link! Please wait for OCD. Up, yay!]

"And she said no? I thought girls liked that sort of thing?" It's possible that all the time he's spent around Jaye has skewed his thinking.

"Yeah, she wasn't up to it, I think." He nods. "So me and Greg just showed each other stuff and had fun without her."

"As you do, in a hut of love," Sam replies. Now he's wondering if he needs to worry about John liking him at all, if he's got Greg and a girl.

"You're welcome to join me and Greg one night," John says cheerfully. "We're always looking for new people."

Sam's eyes widened, and he might have even paled a little as he tried to think of something tactful to say. "Um, I'm kind of glad you brought that up. See, I appreciate the offer, really. But I just...I don't know if that's my kind of thing. And besides, I don't have any kind of experience. You're probably better off with just Greg."

"No experience?" John guffaws and pats Sam on the shoulder. "It's just like a bike. Get on and ride."

All Sam could do was stare and do a good impression of a dying fish, with his mouth opening and closing silently.

"Step up to the plate and hit a homerun?" John says, trying another comparison.

"I have a girlfriend," Sam said weakly. "And I don't think she'd be as cool with this as yours is."

"She could come and play in the fort with me and Greg and Aeryn too!" John exclaims. "The more, the merrier."

Sam's eyes widened again. "She's not that kind of girl! At least, I don't think she is."

"Aww, but we do all kinds of fun things," John tells him. "Lots of experimentation going on in the Hut of Love."

"Experimentation?" It was only through sheer force of will that Sam wasn't outwardly flailing by this point. "You know, now that I think about it, that actually does sound like fun. But I may need to think about it a little more before I can really say for sure whether or not I want to join you guys."

"Not a problem, buddy." John pats Sam on the shoulder again. "Anytime you want in, you just give me or Greg a call. You're always welcome!"

Sam managed to make a genuine looking smile. "Thanks. I'll...definitely keep you guys in mind." He gave John a little wave, before turning and fleeing.
