Festivus in July, Fandom High front lawn, Friday afternoon

Sometime during morning workshops, when no one was paying nearly enough attention except those concerned, the Fandom High schoolgrounds had filled with snow.

For the record, "those concerned" meant Rory Gilmore and several dozen snow cone distributors from the mainland. But who wants to ruin the illusion? Students who were curious might assume that it was simply a Festivus in July miracle, or some such.

In the middle of the lawn stood a bare, aluminum pole. Festivus tradition, you know.

[Yes, the schoolgrounds have snow. I'm weathermodding and saying it's cool enough today through this evening for it to stick, and it'll melt overnight. And yes, we're having Festivus in July. For those not in the know, here is a handy Wiki link! Please wait for OCD. Up, yay!]

"Sure," Isabel agreed holding out her plate with it's extra gingerbread man. "Cookie? It's not as good as the ones I make. But it's not bad."

"Why thank you," Willow said, taking a cookie. "See? It is possible for all holidays to be treated as welcome and valid. Though I am with you in wishing that there could've been more decorations. But they changed their minds very close to the last minute, so I can't blame them for not having enough time to prepare."

"All holidays are. More holidays mean more celebrating. But I'm not sure about the pole," Isabel said. "From what I've read? That is the official Festivus decoration. Bland aluminum."

"Well, we're not allowed to put lights on our houses," Willow said. "So maybe it's kind of like that? A celebration by avoiding other kinds of decorations?"

"Possibly," she agreed and then she read the sign on the table. "A celebration of togetherness. By airing grievances and disappointment." Isabel put her head down on the table and sighed. "I need fruitcake."

Willow patted Isabel on the shoulder. "I've got a doorstop you can borrow if that helps."

"Distract me please. How goes the plan to get a dance floor in Caritas?"

Willow tried to look all knowing and mysterious. This involved being squinty. Willow was not a good actress.

"The owl hoots at midnight," she said, by way of an answer. "Or, you know, when Caritas opens."

"Oh really?" Isabel asked. "Anything I can do to help? Particularly if it will annoy creepy guy?"

"You free tonight?" Willow asked.

Re: Food!

Isabel flipped through an imaginary datebook. "Well the Queen called earlier to cancel our dinner for this evening. So you're in luck. I'm free."

Willow giggled. "Okay then, I have this idea."

She leaned in to whisper it into Isabel's ear.

"That sounds like it'll be beautiful. And highly entertaining. I'll be there," Isabel promised. "We need a dance floor in this town."

Re: Food!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"We so do," Willow said. "How has it survived this long without one? Smooch-buddies should be able to dance together!"

"Occasionally the school will have a dance. There was a Welcome dance when I got here in January," Isabel explained. "And then a Valentine's dance. Then Prom. But you're right. We need a place to dance at more regularly."

Re: Food!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Even if you don't have a date," Willow said. "You could go dancing with friends and boogie your worries away."

Re: Food!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what I did for prom. I was dateless but I think I wound up dancing more then most of the people with dates. Oh," she said. "Speaking of dates? Did you hear about the one we're supposed to go on?"

Re: Food!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes!" Willow said. "Peter mentioned it. You and me and him and Greg?"

Re: Food!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yup," Isabel smiled happily. "If we can get our timing together. Even though it's summer and I don't have all the much going on, time just passes so quickly."

Re: Food!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Peter was suggesting maybe a movie?" Willow said. "I'll try to keep him from throwing candy on people. I swear some days it's like he's not even a - um. Knight."

Re: Food!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what we were thinking. Although if you want to keep him from throwing stuff, I'd suggest we skip any movies in town." Isabel wrinkled her nose. "Have you seen some of them? They exist only to throw popcorn at them." She tried to remember if Peter had ever mentioned being an official title in any of their conversations. At the moment she was drawing a blank and too lazy to go reading through links, but no matter. It certainly made sense and seemed like a title perfectly suited to Peter. "I'd offer my room and laptop if you'd like to watch something more entertaining then lower B-grade. When Xander moved out, I made his bed into a couch. So there's plenty of room."

Re: Food!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oo, that could be a thought," Willow said. "Maybe something classic and romantic?"

Re: Food!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"We might have to balance it with something that has action and explosives. Just to keep the boys happy," she said. "But I'm all for the classic and romantic. What would you pick?"

Re: Food!

[identity profile] willbedone.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"My first instinct would be Casablanca but I don't know if anything involving World War II would upset Peter," Willow said.

Re: Food!

[identity profile] izzyalienqueen.livejournal.com 2006-07-28 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd try and stay away from that," Isabel said. "Besides, I don't like movies that end with sad partings. I'm more of a happily ever after person myself. Maybe a nice romantic comedy?"
