The Kludge's Guide to the Universe | Dangershop, Wednesday Afternoon (Week 3)

Harper was once again sitting with his feet up. He pointed to a list on the wall. "Spilt up into your assigned pairings."

Once everyone had divided up, Harper tapped his controller and cell walls shimmered into being around the different pairings.

"Inevitably, you are going to really annoy someone to the point that they'll lock you up and throw away the key. Unless you happen to have a very good lawyer, or friends with high powered weaponry, you are going to have to rely on your wits to get you out of there."

"Have fun."

[Cells are fairly basic closed boxes, with electronically operated doors. They have two bolted to the wall bunks with basic bedding, a toilet, and a sink.]

"Then that violates our human rights," said Elizabeth firmly.

Elizabeth screwed up her face, thinking. "Article 9, No one shall be subjected to arbitary detention, arrest or exile. Article 10, Everyone is entitled to a full and equal public hearing by an independant and impartial tribunal. Article 11, you have the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a public trial."

She shook her head slightly. "Need to read them again," she murmured to herself.

"Failure to comply with these rights will result in retribution from the US our planet," said Elizabeth firmly. "They know where we last were and if they don't hear from us in - oh," she made a huge show of checking her watch, "in another thirty minutes, then they're authorized to recover us with what force they deem necessary."

"Deirymo," she muttered to herself. She smiled. "Well, feel free to sign your own death warrant at the same time," she said. "Because I can assure you that Colonel Sheppard will leave no one alive when he finds out that you've killed me." She paused. "And him," she added quickly, nodding over at Peter.

"Lt. Colonel John Sheppard, yes," said Elizabeth, quirking an eyebrow. "I'm sure you won't enjoy making his acquantaince."

Elizabeth smiled, shaking her head. "Sorry, that's my mandate," she said. "Once I'm dead, there'll be nothing holding him back."

Elizabeth tried not to snicker. "Yeah, yeah. I'd believe it when I heard it from him. Why don't you get him here?" she suggested brightly.

"Well, give me back my radio and I'll just call him up."

"Uh hu," drawled Elizabeth. "Do your people have any rights?"

"That's... well, it's appalling actually," said Elizabeth, frowning. "Do you rule by martial law? Fake gods?"

"Really?" asked Elizabeth. "How does that work?"

"And nobody ever questions the Wheel?" asked Elizabeth incredulously, staring at the door.

"Right," said Elizabeth sceptically. "And has the Wheel ever given you bad advice?"
