Careers Fair, Fandom High Front Lawn, Friday Afternoon, 07/21/06

By lunch time, the booths were set up, the guests had arrived and there was quaint music playing from somewhere undetermined. Hawkeye is walking around with one of those portable microphone/speaker set-ups, roaming from booth to booth announcing the various guests that have come to Fandom to talk about their professions.

And despite what the mainland weather forecast said, it was definitely a nice, fine day.

"Sure," Statler said. "You want to be one?"

Aeryn shakes her head. "No. You just draw attention."

"And free movie passes," Waldorf added.

"And interviews with Hollywood starlets," Statler chimed in.

They both sighed. "Selma Hayek...."

Statler and Waldorf flailed.

"She's the actress with the..." Statler, said, gesturing with his hands.

"...enormous talent," Waldorf finished.

Talent generally doesn't look like what they just described.

"I'm sure," she says. She has no idea why she feels the urge to thwap them.

"Would you like a fish?" Statler asked, waving to the bucket on the table.

The fish in it waved at Aeryn.

"They come in very handy at bad movies."

"To throw," Waldorf said in a "duh" tone. "It's very cathartic."

"You... throw fish at the movie screen?" Aeryn asks. "Fish? Those swimming things that people cook for food?"

One of the fish in the bucket leaned his fins against the side. "Can you believe it?" he asked. "I tell them to stick with popcorn but noooo. They have to be original."

"We throw popcorn, too," Statler said. "But sometimes you just have to throw a fish."

"That last Space Battles prequel, for one," Waldorf said, nodding.

Aeryn frowns, staring at the fish. "It just talked."

"So do you," the fish said. "What's the big deal?"

"As far as I've always known, fish don't talk," says Aeryn. "The ones in the lobby never did."

"Maybe they just didn't want to talk with you," the fish replied.

He'd been hanging out a bit too long with Statler and Waldorf, who were guffawing loudly at its wit.

Now she has the urge to flick the fish.

"I'm going away now," she decides.

"It was nice meeting you!" Statler said.

"Well, it was okay," Waldorf amended.

"Not exactly the highlight of the day."

"There are definitely better people to talk to..."

"BYE!!" they yelled in unison.
