Careers Fair, Fandom High Front Lawn, Friday Afternoon, 07/21/06

By lunch time, the booths were set up, the guests had arrived and there was quaint music playing from somewhere undetermined. Hawkeye is walking around with one of those portable microphone/speaker set-ups, roaming from booth to booth announcing the various guests that have come to Fandom to talk about their professions.

And despite what the mainland weather forecast said, it was definitely a nice, fine day.

Kawalsky nodded. "Ever had to dress in drag and do the hula while being a spy?"

She shook her head almost mournfully. "I dressed up as a dancing girl once, but it was on a bet." She giggled. "Oh do tell me that you've had to do that though!"

Kawalsky grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, once. Had to distract an enemy unit to so a couple of our guys could escape."

"Did it work?" Aly asked immediately.

"Like a charm," Kawalsky replied. "Come on, you've gotta have a good story like that."

Re: SPY

Aly flashed a grin at him. "You want an embarrassing story of mine to make up for the image I have of you in a skirt now? I see how it is." She stroked the black beaded necklace at her throat. "I was caught slipping listening devices into a nobleman's bath once. Dressed like a bath slave. I had to spend the next three hours bathing him and avoiding his advances." She rolled her eyes though they were very amused. "Sadly the dar-devices? Were already installed. So my people heard everything. I've still not lived that one down."

Charlie laughed. "Now that's a good story. I bet you didn't live it down. And you know," he said and was maybe flirting a little bit, "I think I got the better deal. You've got an image of me in a skirt, but now I've got an image of you dressed like a bath slave."

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe you did," Aly said, flirting a bit back. "I think means you owe me a story to make up for it. "

"I think you're right." He thought about it for a while, tapping his fingers against his chin. "Hmmm. Nope, I'm all out. All of my stories end up with me in drag or hanging upside down from my ankles. Not really what you were looking for?"

Re: SPY

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Aly pouted slightly at him. "Half your stories end up with you dressed as a woman? You're talented."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I'm the bulkiest of the guys I used to hang around with. They thought it was funny to get me into situations where they could take photos and blackmail me. But hey, I can think of one time when there was no hanging or cross-dressing involved. One time we had to retrieve some blueprints from this high security place. Getting in was fine. Getting out was a lot harder. End result? Me trying to pass myself off with a really bad moustache and accent. I think it would've helped my disguise more if I actually knew the language."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Getting out usually is hardest," Aly agreed, laughing at his story. "Unless you blow up the place of course." She looked innocent. "Not that I'd do such a thing. Or you, I'm sure." She tilted her head. "Now if you'd had a real spy with you..."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Me? Touch explosives?" He feigned innocence. Badly. "Never. Well, never except for when I give into my pyro tendencies and have access to plastic explosives. Then it's a little hard to control. What can I say? I like stuff that goes boom. I'm just a big kid at heart. Now if I had a real spy with me, I might even have someone who could supervise and complain when I don't do it the way they want it..."

"I see that I should have told you about blowing up the Rajmuat harbour," Aly said, laughing. "Explosives can be useful in their place, though I'm generally a fan of more subtle means." She looked up at him from under her lashes. "And I couldn't imagine what you're referring too. Just because one way is the right way."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Spoken like a true spook. Subtlty has its place. Subtlty means not getting shot at, and I'm a big fan of that. So..." He looked around. "Did they bring you here to recruit or just share your infinite espionage wisdom with unsuspecting high school kids? Not that most of the people around here need it. They're pretty damned sneaky, especially the girls."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Infinite? Hardly. One can always get better," Aly said with a grin. "I think I was sent here as a joke actually. I have a friend with an odd sense of humour. But I'm always looking to recruit good people. Any in particular I should keep my eye out for?"

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"If they're female and go to school here, they'll be fantastic."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Aly quirked an eyebrow and smiled charmingly. "I'm sure you're selling your gender short. And I already know at least one of your classmates is no spy to be sure." She reached to her table and handed Kawalsky a set of fairly good lock picks. "In case you ever need to break into something again before blowing it up."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey thanks. Where did you say you were from? Y'know, so I can look you up if I'm in the neighborhood." He grinned.

Re: SPY

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're not as good as I'd hoped if you weren't paying attention," Aly said, teasingly. "You're welcome to stop by if it's as a friend. Don't make me have to throw you out to sea." She smiled sweetly.

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Kawalsky smirked and put his hands up in mock defense. "I'm out of the business. But if I stop by, how do I know which Copper Isles to visit?" He used the place she'd mentioned working at to show he was just fishing for more information. "It could be Copper Isles, Florida or Copper Isles Planet Zeta Twelve. For some reason no one's come up with a multiversal phone book yet."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what they all say," Aly grinned. "I'm from *handwavy same as Alanna world,* off the coast of Tortall. And they've not because that would take all the fun out of it."

Re: SPY

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Y'know, I don't know who 'they' are, but I bet you're right." He tried to commit the place names to memory. "Nothing's ever easy around here, that's for sure." Charlie grinned. "Wouldn't have it any other way. I've gotta go, but good luck with the spy business. Maybe we'll meet again if I'm ever in your part of the multiverse."

"Perhaps we shall," Aly said with a flirtatious wink. She rather wondered what Nawat would have to say about that which made her grin. "Good luck to you with whatever business that keeps you occupied."
