Careers Fair, Fandom High Front Lawn, Friday Afternoon, 07/21/06

By lunch time, the booths were set up, the guests had arrived and there was quaint music playing from somewhere undetermined. Hawkeye is walking around with one of those portable microphone/speaker set-ups, roaming from booth to booth announcing the various guests that have come to Fandom to talk about their professions.

And despite what the mainland weather forecast said, it was definitely a nice, fine day.

Rory smiled, because this? This was sooooo her thing.

"Do you do any overseas correspondance?"

"Why hello little lady." says Ron with a wink. He turns away from Rory quickly. If she was paying attention she'd see him taking a sip out of a flask. He didn't exactly know the answer to the question.

"Uh...well...normally we stay in the San Diego area. Last summer our big story was on pandas. They're not from here right? Pandas are from China or something. Or is it Switzerland?"

"China," she replied, narrowing her eyes a little. She had noticed the flash, not to mention there was a fair amount of resentment over that 'little lady' remark. "You don't have any connections with CNN or anything to keep everyone informed of the worldwide issues?"

"To tell you the truth I let Ed handle all that stuff." says Ron "I know it's popular to have some poor soul out in the desert to give updates on whatever the hell is going on out there. But we at Channel Four just don't do that. we have our hair to think about."

"I take it you have ambitions to be in the news room." says Ron. He thought it was cute.

"Something like that," she said, crossing her arms. "Though I think it's possible to care about my hair and cover what's going on in the Middle East."

Ron looked over Rory's hair. "Obviously you and I don't have the same hair standards."

"So what do you hope to do in the news area? Correspondent? Wardrobe? Secretary?"

"Overseas correspondant," she said. "More likely in the textual media area rather than television."

Ron nodded. "Well then you won't have to worry about your hair too much."

"I like having pretty hair," she replied. "It's a thing."

"I have a thing with it too." says Ron "I actually think it's required of all news people. A thing with hair."

"I think it's a luxury, honestly. News is more important than the hair. Good hair is just superfluous," she said seriously.
