Summer Picnic, Main Campfire, Friday afternoon

At lunchtime, the campfire area was set up with blankets, baskets, picnic tables, food, and ant problems. The groundskeeper who brought the ants was later sent home for the rest of the day. It turned out that he didn't really like picnics.

[OOC: I suck and completely forgot about this. Sorry about the relative lateness. It's a sunny and fairly comfortable day. I MOD WEATHER! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!]

Parker carefully folded herself down onto the blanket, and arranged her plate on her knees and the drink in front of her, keeping her eyes open for ants. "Not hungry? Want some chips?"

"No, I'm all right," he says. "But thank you. I managed to remember my breakfast this morning amazingly enough."

She laughed and adjusted her sunglasses, bit into a sandwich, and after chewing and swallowing, said, "This *is* my breakfast. I didn't get up 'til eleven. I love days without workshops. Or classes. Did you have any today?"

"I had one this morning, yes." He pushes himself to a sitting position. "Constant Vigilance with a fellow called the Doctor. No surname. Unusual."

"Extremely. He's an alien." Parker looked at him over her sunglasses. "He usedto know Jack pretty well." She frowned. "No, that's not right. Another *version* of him was practically Jack's stepdad. This one's never met this Jack." She rubbed her forehead. "Time travel makes my head hurt."

Considering he's experienced something similar to time travel-or, at least, time travel knowledge- that doesn't strike him too oddly.

"So, he's no danger to Jack then?"

Parker studied Cedric a moment, then said, "Not from what I could tell. Or Sam, either. He seems sane and pleasant, and not too different from the other Doctor. Who was a good guy, even if he did do a fade without any warning." She smiled, toying with a potato chip. "But Jack would be thrilled you were concerned."

"Well..." He shrugs that off with a smile. "He seems like an interesting teacher. Manic but interesting. I look forward to his class."

Parker's not quite that easily deterred. "I hope so. Manic, yes, I got that." She paused. "Jack mentioned that there was trouble for you, back in England, a couple weeks ago. He seemed determined to help you with it."

"There was...it's complicated," he says quietly. "It could be bad over there, yes."

Re: The Blankets

"Mmm." Parker took another bite of her sandwich, studying Cedric, then carefully said, "Jack said he'd be going with you, if you needed it. So, just so you know. I'll go with you too. If you need it."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
He hadn't expected that. "I-" The words aren't there so he takes a moment to look away before looking back. "It could be really bad."

"I get that impression." She was quiet a moment, then said, "Here's the thing. Jack is one of my very best friends. He cares about what happens to you. So, I'm going to make sure he can help you, while I watch his back. Make sense?"

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"I understand," he says after a pause. "But, I don't want anyone getting injured due to my world and it's...not so good aspects."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Works both ways. We don't want you injured here, either. So... good with the bad." Parker shrugged. "I'm glad to hear you say that, though. Maybe-- maybe it won't be necessary?"

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe," he says but doesn't sound entirely convinced. "I find myself doubting that though."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jack said there was an evil wizard." And he was hoping to shoot the guy. "You really think he's a threat to everyone in your world?"

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," he says firmly. "He is. I have no doubts about that."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker nodded slowly, and took a sip of her Diet Coke. "Does he have any particular goals other than to be just, I don't know, evil? Rule the world, bring back dinosaurs, eliminate the color aqua?"

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes him laugh and, again, he hadn't expected that. "Honestly, I don't know. I was young when he was first a dominant force. He's been gone for a very long time. His goal now is unclear. Power, I would guess. And a lot of it."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Revenge, probably, too." Parker's read enough history to know what thwarted power-mongers are like. "Right. Well, hopefully? Your government will take care of him before you have to go back. And make the problem moot."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," he says, shaking his head. "Where I'm from, there is no government such as there is in America or in muggle England. We have a ministry but they may not be enough."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Parker's expression darkened as she thought. "No police force, or army? No usual agency to handle these threats?" She tapped her fingers on her soda can. "That's... unsettling." No wonder he was worried.

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] chasingsnitches.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, there are people," he amends. "Just nothing in the sense of a police department or any agency such as that. And the power of this person...at one time, it was immense. Frightening."

Re: The Blankets

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"At one time." Parker pounced on that. "You said he was defeated before. They can't use the same measures this time?"
