Summer Picnic, Main Campfire, Friday afternoon

At lunchtime, the campfire area was set up with blankets, baskets, picnic tables, food, and ant problems. The groundskeeper who brought the ants was later sent home for the rest of the day. It turned out that he didn't really like picnics.

[OOC: I suck and completely forgot about this. Sorry about the relative lateness. It's a sunny and fairly comfortable day. I MOD WEATHER! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!]

That makes him laugh and, again, he hadn't expected that. "Honestly, I don't know. I was young when he was first a dominant force. He's been gone for a very long time. His goal now is unclear. Power, I would guess. And a lot of it."

"Revenge, probably, too." Parker's read enough history to know what thwarted power-mongers are like. "Right. Well, hopefully? Your government will take care of him before you have to go back. And make the problem moot."

"No," he says, shaking his head. "Where I'm from, there is no government such as there is in America or in muggle England. We have a ministry but they may not be enough."

Parker's expression darkened as she thought. "No police force, or army? No usual agency to handle these threats?" She tapped her fingers on her soda can. "That's... unsettling." No wonder he was worried.

"No, there are people," he amends. "Just nothing in the sense of a police department or any agency such as that. And the power of this person...at one time, it was immense. Frightening."

"At one time." Parker pounced on that. "You said he was defeated before. They can't use the same measures this time?"

"I don't know," he admits. "I was young the first time. I only what I read and hear secondhand. Even before he was defeated the first time, it wasn't easy. And it was violent."

Parker nodded, biting into an apple, eyes narrowing as she thought. "I'm glad you're here, and not there. For now, anyway. But when you do go back, you'll have back-up." She chewed and swallowed. "We may not have magic, but some of us are damn sneaky. And mean." She grinned wickedly, twirling the apple in her hand, probably looking like Snow White's Wicked Queen, if only Cedric knew it.

"If that time comes," he says quietly, "I'll remember that."
