Summer Picnic, Main Campfire, Friday afternoon

At lunchtime, the campfire area was set up with blankets, baskets, picnic tables, food, and ant problems. The groundskeeper who brought the ants was later sent home for the rest of the day. It turned out that he didn't really like picnics.

[OOC: I suck and completely forgot about this. Sorry about the relative lateness. It's a sunny and fairly comfortable day. I MOD WEATHER! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!]

River examines the food and suddenly feels very indecisive.

Tyler walked up behind River and gave her a hug. "Want me to help you decide?," he whispered in her ear.

River looked up at him, a confused look on her face. She nodded.

Tyler, nto sure exactly what to do, took two plates. On one, he put potato salad, a hot dog, a cookie, and a bunch of grapes. On the other, he put a hamburger, watermelon, carrot sticks, and potato chips. "Pick one."

That choice should be easier but it wasn't. River flapped her arms. "Don't know!"

Tyler flailed, but only a little. "Want a little of everything? Or you could just get a soda for now."

He wondered if he sounded like a total asshole.

River put her hands over her ears. "Just give me one of the plates?" she asked, a pleading look in her face.

Tyler considered it. I used to make bigger choices for other people all the time.

"This one," he said, handing her the plate with the hamburger, because ... well, he liked potato salad himself. "Okay?"

River nodded. She took the plate and a grin spread on her face. Slipping an arm around Tyler she hugged him.

A little surprised, Tyler hugged River back with his free arm. "Glad I could help," he said, looking very happy.

"Sit down somewhere?" River asked, chewing on her food. She had begun to wonder why having Tyler around made her just feel like smiling a lot.

Tyler glanced around, then led them to near a tree. He was smiling a lot too, feeling happy to be with her again. "Here's somewhere," he said. "So how was your week, Miss Tam?"

Chuckling, River replied: "Quite enjoyable, thank you. What about yours. Mr Durden?" She took a bit out of her hamburger.

"Better once I made up with my girlfriend," Tyler said. "I got in a mud fight. Oh, and Draco Malfoy hugged me."

"I missed the mud fight?" River looked seriously disappointed. "I could have thrown mud at you?"

She made a mock frown. "Draco Malfoy hugged you? Should I be jealous?"

She was in a very good mood.

"You could have," Tyler told her, reaching out to poke her shoulder. "You'll have to get back at me later."

"And yes, be very, very jealous." He managed to look serious for almost 30 seconds, then grinned. "That making friends class. We had to try to get something we wanted out of the other person. I was trying to be funny, so I said I wanted a hug. Talked him into it, too."

River gave him a mischievous look. "Is that an invitation?" She looked around, pretending to search for mud.

"I don't know Draco, but he's that blonde boy, isn't he? He couldn't come up with any objections?"

No mind reading, she told herself. No mind reading.

"Blonde, English," Tyler agreed. "And he objected, but I argued past his objections. Besides, he talked me into making him minster of magic."

A mischievous smile tugged at his mouth. "Looking for something?"

"Ants," she said, letting a couple of them crawl on to her hand. "Want one?"

"What's a minister of magic? Oh, and why don't you try and argue your way past my objections?"

"I can do without the bugs, thanks," Tyler said. "And I don't know. Draco said it was like the president."

He gave a flirtatious smile. "Okay, let's say I want ... you to go into the woods with me and kiss. A lot."

Re: The Baskets

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
River looked at the ants crawling over the palm of her hand. She frowned and licked them off. Then she gave him a mock thoughtful look. "Hm. Ok!" A grin spread on her face.

Re: The Baskets

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're supposed to object," Tyler reminded her. "And did you just eat the ants?"

Re: The Baskets

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," River said. "They're crispy. I think you could deep fry them."

"Ok. No I can't go into the woods and kiss you because the squirrels could see us."

Re: The Baskets

[identity profile] tyler-gone.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyler shrugged off the ants thing, though he would never eat them himself.

Well, almost shrugged it off. "But they're alive."

"Squirrels the animals or squirrels the people in the cabin?" he asked. "The animals don't care, and the people probably have better things to do than spy on us. I hope."

Re: The Baskets

[identity profile] moonbrain-tam.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"They die when I swallow them." It was probably an acquired taste.

She whispered loudly: "The animal squirrels do care. They are here to spy on us."
