Callisto did not look happy as she waited for the the class finish coming into the clearing.

"First things first. Those stories you've been hearing on the rado about shoe stealing? True." She held up a large box. "At the start of each class you will take off your shoes and put them in this box. You will get them back at the end of class, if I believe that you have paid sufficient attention in class. Otherwise I get to keep them for the week. After you've done that I want you to introduce yourself to the class and say why you decided to take this workshop."

"Since this is the first class, I'd thought I'd start with something fairly simple. Fandom is filled with many unique and interesting animals, from the ducks and giant squid, to the dancing lemers and weetiny bunnies, to the minature giraffes and shy, retiring teal deer, to John Crichton. Some of these are harmless, others dangerous, still more tasty. Which is why, when lost in the wilderness, it's important to know what animals might be in your near vicinity. One of the best ways to do this is through tracking, the basics of which I will be teaching you today."

Callisto went on to give a very interesting and informative talk on tracking. It might even have drawn the attention of a few teal deer.

"Your assignment today is to split into pairs and identify which Fandom animal made the set of tracks I've assigned you.

"Good luck. You're going to need it."

Gwynn stared at the tracks for a very long time, trying to puzzle things out in her mind.

"I think it's something that hops," Rory offered, carefully walking up and trying to keep her feet relatively clean. "Um, hi. I'm Rory."

Gwynn smiled at her. "I'm Gwynn." She looks back down at the tracks and then smiles again. "I ahve never seen any tracks like this."

"Well, look how the feet stay together and there's no evidence of, like, a step," Rory pointed out. "It's either something that hops or something that has slightly scarily identical front feet and back feet."

Gwynn's eyes widened slightly. "I like your idea of it being something that hops much better."

"I don't think we have kangaroos, though it's not out of the question," Rory considered thoughtfully. "Can you think of any hopping animals offhand?"

"Very big frogs?"

Rory giggled. "I don't think Jeremiah has any friends visiting, and he's the only frog I know around here."

Gwynn thought about this. "What about those dragon things that attacked last week?"

Rory blinked. "The Jello dragons? Do you think they're still around?"

Gwynn sighed. "Probably not. A big turtle that does have matching feet?"

"It probably wouldn't be able to span the space between steps," she mused, twirling a bit of hair thoughtfully.

And then stopped, looking at her hair. "We have wallabies, though."

Gwynn looked interested. "What a wallaby?"

"Like a small kangaroo," Rory explained, probably less than helpfully.

"Kangaroo?"
