The danger-shop was set up to look like a cluttered workshop, every available surface covered in futuristic looking junk. Harper sat with his feet up on a bench tapping at a control pad and drinking from a can of Sparky's.

"Good afternoon class," Harper said, taking a sip of his cola. "Just find somewhere to take a seat and we'll get started."

After the class had found somewhere to sit or lean, he stood up.

"My name is Seamus Zelazny Harper," he said. "You can call me Harper. Now I could give this big inspiring Dylan-like speech about the universe, chaos and how we must and really, all you need to know can be condensed into two sentences." Harper held up two fingers.

"The universe hates you. Deal with it.

"And how to successfully deal with it is what you're going to be learning to do over the next few weeks, " Harper said. "And trust me, I've done more than my fair share of dealing with it.

"One important thing to realise is that just because the universe hates you, not everyone in the universe does too. In fact sometimes the only thing standing between you and a horrible painful demise is a group of friends not willing to give up on you. So to start with we'll be doing a number of team-building exercises." Harper grinned. "Of course, since the universe does hate you, and it's been my experience that nothing builds a team faster than your own impending demise, they aren't your regular team building exercises.

"But we'll just start off slow with some introductions."

"None at all," said Janet, holding her finger steady underneath the stick. "I've got steady hands, you've got steady hands. We can do this." She sounded confident. She hoped.

OOC: Sorry, work got nuts for a while.

"Steady does it," Cameron said, speaking softly as if not to upset the stick, as he slowly started to lower his hand.

Janet bent her knees and started easing the stick down. She glanced up at Cameron to make sure they were moving at the same rate.

Cameron copied her, but there was the slight height difference to consider which made keeping the stick level was starting to get pretty interesting.

"This is looking good--" Janet shifted her weight slightly back and the stick wobbled.

That was looking less good and Cameron quickly steadied the far end of the stick with his other index. Taking a slow breath, he looked at Janet. "Okay, let's try not to do that again because I like having a beating heart."

"That sounds like a good plan," said Janet, remembering to breathe again.

"I sometimes to have them," he commented with a grin as he slid his fingers closer together and concentrated on lowering the stick, ignoring the uncomfortable position.

Janet bit back any laughter that would have shaken the stick. "They've worked out well for you so far." She held her other hand out slightly for balance.

"Eh, sometimes. Other times they tend to bite you in the ass," he paused. "Or in this case explode in your face. No exploding," he told the stick and frowned. "Okay, so we're nearly there but how are we supposed to get it on the ground without really dropping it?"

Janet frowned down at the stick. "I think we both have to slide our fingers out from underneath it simultaneously," she said.

"Whatever you say, boss," Cameron was now able to rest his hands on the ground. "Ready?"

"Almost..." Janet let her free hand rest gently on the floor to steady herself. "Okay, I'm good to go when you are."

"Okay. On three," Cameron said and started to slowly count down. On three he carefully slipped his fingers from underneath the stick.

Janet's fingers slid out at the same time as Cameron's, and she leaned back on the floor as she grinned up at Cameron. "We're good," she said.

Cameron smirked and sat back as well. "Real good," he agreed, only barely resisting doing a small victory dance.
