A note was ~~handwavily~~ left at each cabin door this morning along with an e-mail, to cover all bases, letting the campers know where to meet, and that they should dress in shoes they don't mind running in, and clothes they don't mind getting jelly on.

Now, three tables along the window opposite the pastry cases are pushed together and covered with open white boxes of doughnuts. Yeast, cake, cruller, bearclaw, jelly, custard, cream puff and eclair, with sprinkles and without, they're all there. Chairs are arranged in a semi-circle around the boxes, and -- contain your shock -- where there are doughnuts, there's Xander.

Once everybody's settled down, he grins, and holds up a bavarian creme. "This is Scoobying 101; for anybody who doesn't know me by now, I'm Xander Harris." He waves the doughnut, because by all means reduce, re-use and recycle, even or maybe especially when it comes to jokes. "Actually, this is a doughnut and I'm Xander; Scoobying would be the thing you're in besides a bakery."

"Scooby is... well, it's a word we used to describe the gang of mostly normal people who ended up helping out one of our friends who's---" If it looks like he's staring somewhat bemusedly towards the area where Buffy's sitting, it's only because he is. "--kind of a superhero."

"The thing is, the girl in question's megastrong and martial-artsy--" Yeah, he'll skip using 'bendy' as an adjective this time... "--but she still ended up needing help from her friends, and we all found things we were good at that we could help with.

"So that's the deal here: not everybody has the flashy powers or the big guns or the superspy training, but everybody has something they can do to help. Hopefully by the end of the workshop you'll have an idea what that is for you, or at least know how to start looking."

"It makes sense to start out small, though - and you can't get much smaller than the guy who makes the doughnut run, right? Trust me, I speak from experience." He picks up one of the boxes of doughnuts and models his impressive doughnut-box-carrying talents. "But the idea is to get you thinking about how to make the best use out of the skills you have, no matter how little or lame you may believe they are."

"So today you have to figure out what's not lame about being the doughnut guy. In exchange you get...well." He points at the obvious -- though if it's not obvious or you're busy looking out the window, that'd be the baked goods. "If you can handle the job."

[OPEN LIKE A BOX OF DOUGHNUTS. Posted early because work is going to be wacky this week and next, so I have no idea when I'll be able to ping in.]

Willow would've been happy to help, except Zero was there and help was apparently not needed.

So she sat back with her sandwiches and waved if Xander happened to look in her direction.

Marie spotted her roommate and gave her a wave.

Willow waved back.

"Fellow workshop-crasher!" Bridge says with a grin. "Hi!"

"Hey, Bridge!" Willow said with a wave. "How's it going?"

"Pretty good," Bridge bounces. "Got no workshops of my own today, so I'm following your example and being toooootally not here."

"Who said that?" Willow replied, with her best innocent look.

She then dropped it for something more serious. "Hey, you got a sec? Long as you're here?"

"Sure," Bridge says. "What's up?"

"Have you seen this?" Willow asked, handing him a copy of the schedule of events (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh_ooc/327276.html).

"No, I-" Bridge takes the paper and glances at it. "*Christmas* in July? Hey!"

"Exactly!" Willow said. "Hello? Exclusive much?"

"It's totally not fair," Bridge agrees. "I mean, when you have students from all different backgrounds, some of whom are not even from Earth, and here they are saying 'you must all celebrate Christmas!'."

"That's just what Blair and I were saying!" Willow said. "If we're going to do a holiday themed celebration why not one that lets us be educated about all the nifty new cultures here? Or at the very least one that doesn't teach that the only Earth holiday that matters involves guys in red suits."

"We should protest." Bridge says decisively. And for some reason, feels strangely pleased at the crack against guys in red suits.

Sometime after she'd finished talking with Bridge, the last of the students had taken off on their doughnut runs, and Xander had the chance to wander back and talk to Willow.

"What were you and Bridge looking so plotty about," he asked with a grin, bringing a box of assorted filled doughnuts over.

"Secret government conspiracies," Willow replied, taking a donut. Then, because to her there was a segue here, "Can you show Peter the Snoopy dance?"

"I dunno - that's highly classified material. Even Bridge hasn't seen my snoopy dance yet. Is Peter cleared for it?"

Willow had a shy smile. "I'd trust him with it. Plus I'm trying to show him I'm not Miss Hates All Things Christmas. There was confusion on the subject."

"Ahhh. No, you are a true and loyal fan of the Little Co-opted Pagan Symbol That Could," Xander said, nodding and sounding very much like he was quoting somebody or other. "No one should ever doubt that."

Willow smiled at him. "I knew you'd understand. So do you have any tips for camping?"

"Don't share a tent with Marty and Angela if you're worried about accidental grope-age," Xander answered immediately.

"Good to know," Willow said. "How about for not being eaten by bears?"

"I didn't see any bears when we were out there last time," Xander said thoughtfully. "Just a tent-elf."

"And how do I avoid being eaten by tent-elves?" Willow asked.

"You don't; they don't eat you. They just set up your tent and cook breakfast for you."
