Baking Workshop 7/10, Monday Morning

Piper smiles at the students as they arrive. She kind of already fears for the home ec classroom. "Good morning everyone. I'm Piper, in case some of you don't already know that."

She points out a plate of brownies on the counter. "I usually make samples of the assignments I choose. Today is no exception. As you can see, you're going to bake brownies today."

She hands them each a list of ingredients and instructions. "I try to make the instructions as easy to follow as possible, but, if you ever have questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to ask."

"Well, I know to be more careful in the future," Marie said.

Cally nodded, and started picking at her fingernails. "So, ballet, piano, cheerleading, and boys," she said. "That's not exactly a full day, so what else are you interested in?"

"I'd like to travel some day," Marie shared. "I have a trip all mapped out to travel up the east coast, cross over into Canada at Niagara Falls and then travel west across Canada to Alaska."

"Oh, cool," Cally said. "I guess I never thought much about travelling, myself. About the only big trip I really went on was coming here."

"Well that was probably a big trip," Marie pointed out.

"So big I don't remember a thing about it," Cally admitted.

"You don't remember?" Marie asked.

"I remember sayin' goodbye to my parents, getting on the shuttle... woke up standing outside the school with my suitcases," she said. "Kinda unsettling, but I got over it."

"Wow, that sounds difficult," Marie said, actually feeling bad for Cally. The timer went off then and she pulled her brownies out of the oven.

Cally's buzzer went off shortly thereafter. "I got used to it. I still get letters from Dad, every once in a while. Though I haven't gotten one in months."

Re: Bake

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't really talked to my parents much either," Marie admitted. "Mostly because if I told them a fraction of what goes on here, they'd yank me back home."

Re: Bake

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Cally nodded. "There has been no reports of zombies, snow monsters, or Jello dragons home," she said. "Same deal. Dad would worry too much, and mom would worry that I was being corrupted or something."

Re: Bake

"Same here," Marie said with a little laugh. "Big family with traditional Christian values."

Re: Bake

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Mom's a teacher during the week, and a priest on the weekends," Cally said.

Re: Bake

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh wow," Marie said. "So you know exactly where I'm coming from."

Re: Bake

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Cally nodded. "Assuming you don't think I'm totally corrupted, which I swear I'm not."

Re: Bake

[identity profile] untouchableskin.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I guess I'll have to make my own judgements about that," Marie said.

Re: Bake

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Cally nodded again, and removed her brownies from the oven finally, which were amazingly in decent shape. "S'all I can ask, really."

Re: Bake

"It was good talking to you," Marie said, her own brownies finally cool enough to cut. "See you in class next week."
