Baking Workshop 7/10, Monday Morning

Piper smiles at the students as they arrive. She kind of already fears for the home ec classroom. "Good morning everyone. I'm Piper, in case some of you don't already know that."

She points out a plate of brownies on the counter. "I usually make samples of the assignments I choose. Today is no exception. As you can see, you're going to bake brownies today."

She hands them each a list of ingredients and instructions. "I try to make the instructions as easy to follow as possible, but, if you ever have questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to ask."

"I'm not sure, since you would be minus one factor of moisture but plus another," Greg mused, adding his sugar and eggs. "Also, would you say your hair is red, or a very, very dark pink?"

"The box says crimson glow," Angela said, intrigued and realizing something. "You're going to think I'm the stupidest persoon on earth, but we kind of had this conversation, like, two months ago, right? I remember meeting a new kid who was really interested in my hair. Though I guess yoou aren't really new anymore."

"You're Angela!" Greg realized. "No, I'm supposed to look for a pink-haired girl and I wanted to be sure. I thought you disappeared."

"I am," Angela nodded. "Greg, right? And nope, no disappearing, just a vacation. Are you looking for Zero Hopeless-Savage? I saw her Saturday." She stirred at her batter some more. "I mean, unless we have another girl with pink hair."

"No, that's her. She's dating my roommate," Greg said, starting to mix his own batter. "And I told him that I didn't want to mess up and say hi to the wrong pink-haired girl. Where did you get to?"
chasingangela: (looking up optimistic)

"So if you room with Peter, you're right down the hall from me," Angela said. "I mean, when we aren't in the cabins. I'm in 304."

She poured the batter into the pan, then leaned against the counter. "We went to Tahiti, then home to see my family in Pittsburgh, then L.A. to visit soome people who just graduated. Then Paris. And now we're back here."

"You missed the Great Cabin War of Aught Six," Greg told her. "But otherwise, sounds like you had more fun than we have here. Oh, and there were mummies and Jello dragons."
chasingangela: (twist of fate)

Re: Bake

[personal profile] chasingangela 2006-07-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"I heard about the jello dragons," Angela said. "Mummies? Ew. And yeah, most of the trip was pretty fun, but this place feels like home, you know?"

"That Rory girl read from a book and then there were mummies." Greg shrugged. "I made explosives and was involved because my girlfriend wanted to fight." He slid his pan into the oven and hopped up to sit on the counter while he waited. "And yeah, I know what you mean. San Gabriel already seems like it would be weird to call home, and I've been here for two months."
chasingangela: (name sidelong)

Re: Bake

"Rory didn't tell me that," Angela said, half-giggling. "I need to find her. Is everyone okay? Oh, and who're you dating?"

She sighed. "Yeah, exactly. I'm kind of looking at colleges closer to my parents, but that's going to be weird."

"Isabel Evans," he told her a little shyly. "Everyone's fine now, but there were some broken bones and stuff."

Greg frowned thoughtfully. "I'll probably end up going back to California for school, just because I do miss it a little. But I have a year to think about it."
chasingangela: (self-confident profile)

Re: Bake

[personal profile] chasingangela 2006-07-10 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aw, Isabel's a sweetheart. Congratulations." And that was someone else she still needed to say hi to.

She put her own pan of batter in the oven. "See, I need to start sending in applications in a couple months. Pennsylvania's not as far as California, but then there's the whole weird 'being from 1996' thing."

"Is the year it is when I go home, yeah," Angela said, a little self-conscious. "I was born in 1979."

She shrugged. "I'm just glad I'm not too displaced in time, you know? It really sucks for the people who had never encountered electricity before they came here."

Re: Bake

"Yeah, Pevensie's from like 1940-odd, isn't he?" Greg mused. "That must be so weird, to be in the wrong time, though."

Re: Bake

[personal profile] chasingangela 2006-07-10 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess," Angela said. "I was kind of obsessing about the vampires and aliens and boys. I think it took me about three weeks to realize I was ten years off -- I just thought everyone had the fanciest electronics ever. But I'm not that displaced, you know? It's probably different for the WWII people."

"So you're from now?"

Re: Bake

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Greg nodded. "I'm boring that way, really. And yeah, I know what you mean. I'm Science Guy. The first time I met Bel and he did the teleporty fire-hand stuff was a little weird, for instance."
chasingangela: (thinky thinky)

Re: Bake

Angela shivered slightly, and glanced over at the demon before speaking. "Yeah, he can be a little ... intense," she said, and shut her mouth firmly.

Ready for a change in topic, she danced over to the oven and opened the door. "Huh. They look done."

"But see, if we decide they are, Murphy's Law dictates that they'll be gooey in the middle," Greg said sadly.
chasingangela: (self-confident profile)

Re: Bake

[personal profile] chasingangela 2006-07-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"But then we just dump a bunch of ice cream on them and eat them with a spoon," Angela suggested.

Re: Bake

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"And that is the best way to eat brownies," Greg decided, tentatively poking at his with a spoon. "Think Piper'll be mad?"
chasingangela: (Default)

Re: Bake

[personal profile] chasingangela 2006-07-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Angela looked doubtful. "She shouldn't be. I mean, not if we share?"

Re: Bake

[identity profile] like-a-sponge.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
"She seems too nice to get mad over goopey brownies anyway," Greg decided.
