Talent Show, Fandom High Auditorium, Friday Afternoon, 07.07.06

The all too familiar opening chords of Europe's The Final Countdown sounded and after a short delay for dramatic effect, GOB danced out onto the auditorium stage. He pulled blue and gold handkerchief chains out of both sleeves (which was difficult with a hand still in a cast) until the chains clearly met in the middle underneath his shirt. A large burst of smoke appeared on stage and when it cleared, the handkerchiefs had turned into two cages of doves. One of the doves fell over in the cage, choking on the smoke.

Over the next couple minutes he disappeared cards, linked and unlinked rings, and made his cast say "GO GREMLINS." It was slightly more impressive than should normally be expected from GOB.

When the music wound down, GOB stepped up to the microphone. "Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, and others. Today you will witness the finest example of amateur talent you have ever seen. Unless they suck. If they suck, you should make sure they know they suck. Not just today. Boo them this weekend, too. They'll deserve it for making me a liar."

"Anyway, let's hear it for today's acts!"

Dawn couldn't help staring at her boneheaded roommate. "Sam. They just got up on stage and dedicated a song to you. I don't think flowers are going to cause them a problem."

"Good luck with that. I bet he'd say he was, even if he wasn't, just because he thought it was funny."

"If he wasn't involved, he can help me plot revenge," Sam explained. "Hell, he'd probably be willing to help me even if he was involved."

"Oh, come on. There's no need for revenge," Chloe says, smiling. "In the grand scheme of craziness that's gone on around here, this is nothing."

Sam glanced at Chloe, rolling his eyes. "That's because you're not the one who just got mortally embarassed in front of a room full of people."

"Revenge just ends you up in detention playing dodgeball or wearing a really tight corset," Dawn told him. "Trust me on this one."

"Dress up in drag and embarrass them back?" Dawn giggled, "although I don't know if that's really possible..."

"How are you at ignoring obnoxious people?"

"I am not going to dress in drag, and you are insane for even suggesting that," Sam said quickly, shaking his head.

"I'm not very good," he admitted.

"Hey!" Dawn said, very nearly offended, "I'm not insane. Just weird."

"Okay, so scratch the ignore them and they'll get bored plan. Hmmm."

"Maybe I should try the 'talk to them and find out what I did to get their inadvertant attention' plan. I've heard that works with some people," Sam said.

"Well, sure, if you wanna be mature." Dawn, clearly not in the mood to be at all mature, made a face at him. "But I bet they pretend not to know what you're talking about."

"Probably." Sam pouted fully this time, sinking back in his seat. "This is why my revenge plan works. It's not mature at all."

"But then you're spending a Saturday playing dodgeball in a corset, and you said you didn't want to do drag," she pointed out.

"At this point, I think dodgeball in drag would be less traumatizing than what I'm feeling right now. And besides," Sam added, "I'd only be in detention if I got caught."

Dawn snorted. "What? So some guy's got a crush on you. Like that's never happened before?"

"Hidden cameras. All I'm saying."

Sam blinked at Dawn. "You don't think he really has a crush on me, right? Because that never has happened before, not with a guy."

He frowned softly. "I keep forgetting about all the surveillance. I guess you have a point there."

"I have no idea," she shrugged a shoulder and looked unconcerned, "but I don't see why it wouldn't. I mean, you're totally smart and cute and nice. Guys like that too, I think. If he does, tell him you're not interested if you're not, and say yes if you are." But boy, she hoped he wasn't. For Buffy's sake. Yes.

It was also possible she'd gotten a lecture from Tara on this very subject.

"Might I add that it's difficult to know if you're really interested without a little experimentation?" Chloe piped up, matter-of-factly. "That's why a lot of the boykissy and girlkissy happens, because it's hard to say whether or not you're interested in the same sex if you haven't done anything with them."

"Can I make an official note that you are not helping?" Sam said to Chloe, before glancing at Dawn. "I don't need to experiment, really. I'm totally not interested. I mean, besides the fact that I have Buffy, which would make doing anything with anyone else completely inappropriate, I'm just...not like that. Not that it's wrong!" he added quickly. "I just...there's really no way for me to end this conversation without wanting to die again, is there?"

Dawn? Relieved? Oh yeah. For Buffy's sake, still, of course. "No, probably not, but I know what you mean. I mean, I'm a little curious, because I know a lot of people that like it? But it's not really my, er, primary area of interest."

If Sam was anywhere close to his normal state of calm, he might have used that as an opportunity to picture Dawn engaging in girlkissy, but not today. "That's good to know. For Dean's sake," he said.

"Why would Dean care?" She stopped, and blushed, "Oh, yeah. Right. No, I don't cheat. My dad, my, er, real dad, did that to my mom. And one of Buffy's boyfriends, er, my Buffy, obviously, did it to her. It's kind of a touchy subject with me."

"I can understand why," Sam replied, giving her a light smile. "Luckily, Dean and I were both raised better than that." He sighed and glanced back at the stage. "Maybe I shouldn't have come to see this show. I probably would have been better off not knowing about any of this."

"Awwww, Sam," Dawn said, hugging him, "Don't say that. It's still funny, and I'm sure they didn't mean anything by it.

Okay, the hug definitely made him feel better. "I'm glad you think it's funny," he said, smirking to let her know that he was serious about that.
