The all too familiar opening chords of Europe's The Final Countdown sounded and after a short delay for dramatic effect, GOB danced out onto the auditorium stage. He pulled blue and gold handkerchief chains out of both sleeves (which was difficult with a hand still in a cast) until the chains clearly met in the middle underneath his shirt. A large burst of smoke appeared on stage and when it cleared, the handkerchiefs had turned into two cages of doves. One of the doves fell over in the cage, choking on the smoke.

Over the next couple minutes he disappeared cards, linked and unlinked rings, and made his cast say "GO GREMLINS." It was slightly more impressive than should normally be expected from GOB.

When the music wound down, GOB stepped up to the microphone. "Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, and others. Today you will witness the finest example of amateur talent you have ever seen. Unless they suck. If they suck, you should make sure they know they suck. Not just today. Boo them this weekend, too. They'll deserve it for making me a liar."

"Anyway, let's hear it for today's acts!"

"Thanks," Marie replied. "Conner helped me pick it."

"Yeah, that's right, you mentioned you two were gonna do that. Glad it worked out for you." He looked around. "Everyone really seemed to get into it."

"Well, Peter was a tough act to follow," Marie said with a straight face.

Charlie snickered. He couldn't not. "Yeeeah, that Peter. He sure is something special, isn't he?"

"Do you think he ate too much paste or sniffed too many markers in kindergarten?" Marie asked.

"Both. And he was probably dropped on his head. In a room with lead-based paint."

Marie tried not to laugh. "It's kind of mean to talk about him," she said. "Maybe he has an actual problem."

"Maybe. But I knew a couple of guys like him at my old school. Sometimes people are just doofy."

"Yeah, there were some people like that at my school, too," Marie nodded.

Charlie shrugged. "They make life entertaining. Although I could've done without falling off my chair at the rap."

"You actually fell off your chair?" Marie asked, giggling.

"I laughed, then I tried not to laugh and I fell sidewards while trying not to laugh. Then I fell. It wasn't dignified."

"You didn't get hurt, did you?" Marie hoped not, or she'd feel bad about giggling.

"Naaaah." He grinned. "Takes more than a bump to hurt me."

"Good," Marie smiled.

"Anyway, I've gotta run. I'll see you later?"

"Definitely!" Marie said. "Bye!"
