Leadership/Outdoorsmanship, Gun Range, Thursday Morning

Honor was already at the gun range when the students began filing in. Her principal guardsman, Andrew LaFollet, was two lanes down. Clad in protective eyewear, he stood with his feet shoulder-width apart, firing a flechette gun. For the moment, he seemed oblivious to the incoming rush of teenagers. Honor herself turned, removing her glasses and placing them next to the .45 caliber weapon on the counter.

"Good morning, everyone," she said with a slight smile. "Please make sure to sign in and then make your way over here."

She stood before several racks which had been set up, on which various firearms rested. Those familiar with firearms might have recognized the various .22 caliber pistols and rifles, flechette guns, as well as heavier weaponry, such as an MP5SD5, a P90, or an M16. Earplugs and eyewear were also available.

"Today, we're going to discuss firearms and firearm safety. For some of you, this is old hat; for others, this is new material. Given the serious nature of the weapons we'll be working with today, however, I expect full attention to detail." She leveled her gaze, making eye contact with each student. "Failure to do so will get you ejected from this session."

Satisfied that she had made her point, she launched into a lecture on gun safety rules. She then proceeded to take the time to demonstrate how each of the weapons operated; Andrew offered the demonstration on the operation of the flechette guns.

"You will get the opportunity to try each of the weapons. Please be aware of your environment, and your classmates. If you have any questions, please ask. Today, there is no such thing as a dumb question." She smirked. "Well, at least about the weaponry."

Honor then settled back and allowed the students to choose their weapons. She and Andrew kept a close eye on them, while making themselves available to answer questions as the students spent the allotted time practicing.

Bel handled the weapons clumsily at first, unfamiliar with their use. He had his own built-in projectile weaponry, after all.

Honor arched a brow at Bel, seeing him gesture with his weapon (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/920322.html?thread=46457090#t46457090). "Mister Turner, is there a problem?"

Peter was definitely glad Dean had shown him a bit about shooting before or he'd have been even more lost. As it was, he was still very tentative handling them.

A glance over in Peter's direction told Anders that the other boy was probably about as uneasy as he was.

"These things make you as nervous as they make me?" he asked at a suitable pause.

Pippi starts with the fleshette gun, her aim is a little off.

She does improve some in working with the new weapon.

Finally, she takes one of the flechettes and throws it, like a dart, at the target.

Bullseye.

Anders looked over and shook his head with a slight grin. "Nice aim, Pippi."

After listening to the gun safety lecture with more intensity than he usually devoted to class lectures, Anders approached the weapons racks looking distinctly uneasy; he'd never handled a gun before in his life, and the dreams he'd had of late didn't exactly make him feel any more comfortable about this.

Finally, after a lot of hesitation, he selected a .22 caliber pistol and stepped up to a lane.

"I don't know about this," he muttered. It took a lot of effort not to squeeze his eyes shut when he pulled the trigger.

He seems to be focusing a little on the M-16, perhaps a little nostalgic for his lost assault rifle.

The P90 and the MP5SD5, though, are impressing him muchly.

Dean really hoped he wasn't drooling when he looked at some of the weapons that were available for them to try. None of them were pulse pistols, but it wasn't like he got to shoot an M16 every day either.

But he didn't go right for the flashy guns. Figuring it might be better to warm up a little first, he picked up a .45, faced the target and emptied the clip into it.

There may have been a rather satisfied smile on his face as he did so.

Peter had seen the front end of a gun many, many times by now, so it might be understandable why he seemed uncomfortable handling one.

After firing a few .22 caliber rounds at the target with little success, Peter set the gun down and quietly declared, "Yeah, I'm officially not a gun person."

Tim had never held a gun in his life, and wasn't too sure he was comfortable doing so now. But it wasn't like he hadn't known this session was coming, so he paid very close attention to the rules, and avoided the larger guns, going for the simple .45 His aim, unless he was trying to miss the target by a country mile, sucked.

"Wow they don't kick in the movies." he muttered.
