Photography Workshop [6/28]

Veronica has a very large cup of coffee with her, but she looks ragged. It's obvious she hasn't slept much in the last few nights.

"Okay, gang. This is our last regular workshop. Next week, you'll have time to develop your photos from this week, but then I want you to pick your best photos from class and display them for your fellow students. Today we're going to learn about night photography," she said, giving them a handout.

She was about to start her lecture when Aaron appeared, sneering, of course. They let you teach? he laughed. What are you doing? Trying to get all these kids to be busybodies like you?

Veronica closed her eyes and took a few deep, slow breaths. "No lecture today. Go develop your photos. Let me know if you have questions. And tonight, you're all welcome to attend Professor Arroway's Astronomy workshop if you'd like to practice your night photography skills. Your prompts for next week are Star, Shadow, and Sad."

She put her head down on the desk.

Veronica shook her head. "He was here earlier, but he's gone now. He was at Caritas last night," she shuddered as she recalled the half overheard conversation he'd been having with the ghost haunting Archie. "I barely slept though. My nightmares are back full force."

"I'm so sorry," Anakin said. "And from what I've heard on the radio, it doesn't seem to be happening to just you."

He bit his lip, looking at his feet, then finally blurted it out. "When Rory was having nightmares after Angelus, I was able to take some of the fear away. It's part of the Jedi thing." His cheeks went pink. "If you'd like, I can do the same thing for you. It stops the nightmares for a little while."

"Really?" Veronica said, her expression hopeful. "That might help. Would it hurt?"

"Not at all," Anakin said. "It just kind of calms down your emotions, makes you quiet and peaceful and stuff."

"Okay, I'm willing to give it a shot," Veronica said.

"You want to try it now?" Anakin asked. "It won't make you pass out in the middle of what you're doing or anything--it'll just stop your brain from moving a million kilometers an hour."

He shrugged. "Or I can stop by later. I don't have much going on today."

"Now's fine, I guess," Veronica said. "I have a couple phone calls to make this afternoon. And apparently people are doing research into what might be causing this. I don't know if you've heard, but a lot of people are having issues right now."

Anakin took a step closer. "Okay," he said, taking a deep breath. "There won't be tingling or anything--you'll just feel calmer."

He closed his eyes and held out his hand. Reaching into the Force, he concentrated on sending soothing waves towards Veronica, calming the area around her.

After a moment, he opened his eyes and looked at her. "How's that?"

Aaron appeared then. You can't get rid of me that easily, Veronica.

Veronica took a deep breath and, while his presence still rattled her, she didn't feel the same blind panic she'd felt earlier.

She gave Anakin a grateful look. "I think it helped."

Anakin smiled at her, then turned to glare at Aaron. "You need to leave," he said coldly. "Now."

"You can't make me," Aaron sneered. "And you can do your mojo to make her less scared, but I can terrify her more."

Veronica looked down, knowing his words were true.

"What a fascinating use of your time," Anakin said, sounding bored. "Really." He narrowed his eyes and moved to block Aaron's view of Veronica. "Stay away from her. You deserved everything you got. More."

Aaron laughed. "Go ahead, try your best to protect her. Why don't you ask her how she treats people that try to look out for her though. You might re-think your actions.

He disappeared again.

Veronica put her head down on the desk and fought back tears.

Anakin's heart twisted in his chest. Sometimes it really sucked being able to pick up on other people's emotions.

"He's gone," he said quietly, his hand hovering just above Veronica's shoulder, uncertain whether she'd want him to touch her or not.

"Thank you," Veronica said softly, not looking up.

[ooc: fine by me if he puts a hand on her shoulder. i'm heading home from work, so won't ping back for an hour or so.]

Anakin dropped his hand down and gave her shoulder a small squeeze.

"I'm sorry I can't do more," he said.

[OOC: *waves*]

Veronica looked up at that and gave him a small smile. "You've done a lot," she said.

"He's still around. Clearly I'm not doing enough." He kept his hand on Veronica's shoulder. "You said people were doing research about this?"

"Yeah. I talked to the Winchesters last night and they said they were going to look into it. And I think there are other people as well," Veronica said. "I'm not the only person being haunted."

"I'll keep my ears open," he said. "This isn't exactly my area of expertise, but I want to help if I can." He looked at Veronica. "I don't like to see people I know hurting."

"I appreciate that," Veronica said. "I'll keep you informed if I learn anything else."

"Thanks," Anakin said, giving Veronica's shoulder a final squeeze before moving away. "And if you need anything, you know where to find me, okay?"

Anakin's mouth twisted. "That guy's a scary bastard but he can't hurt you. He's dead."

Veronica nodded. "I know, I keep reminding myself of that."

She tilted her head. "Hey, Anakin? You told him that he deserved what happened to him. Do you know what happened?"
