Library, Monday, 6/26

Tyler yawned as he opened the library; he had slept even less than usual the night before. He gripped his coffee tightly as he settled in behind the desk.

The library was open.

[OOC: New job = I'm here until about 1:30 EST and will pick up any tags after 10. Also, Bob is a ghost only Tyler can see; that thread is locked and Bob's presence is NFB unless the pirate can see ghosts.]

"It's been a strange morning," Tyler said uneasily. "How's life for Jamie?"

"Relatively boring," Jamie replied with a shrug. "I'm thinking of reading the encyclopedia. And what kind of strange are we talking about? Because I read about the school washing machines having a strike to support the doors on the fifth floor or something and that's pretty strange."

"Old problems coming back to haunt me," Tyler said, then thought about the word choice. "Literally. Or not. So ... probably less strange than sentient washing machines."

"Ah. Did that Marla girl finally track you down?" Jamie asked. "If so you have my sympathies. From what you've told me she's a firecracker."

"She sent me an email," Tyler said listlessly. "Not that, though. Wish it was just that. At least she's alive."

Jamie gave Tyler a weird look. "Alive? As opposed to... what? A fish?"

Tyler matched Jamie's weird look. "Yes. A fish. Never mind, everything's fine."

"You sure?" Jamie asked carefully. "You look a little shaky. Maybe you need food. A drink. A frozen Grape Judas."

"Grape judas..." Tyler had clearly never heard of such a thing. "No. I'll be fine."

He rubbed his forehead. "It's strange that even though I've decided nothing here is going to be weird to me? Some things still are."

"Like what?" Jamie asked as he pulled out the "A" volume of the Britannica. "Hey can I check this out or do I have to read it here?"

"Don't care," Tyler said. "I mean, you can check it out."

He sighed. "Like ... things that can't be there that are there."

Jamie laid the book on the checkout table and searched for his library card. "Things that are there but not. Hate to tell you bud, but Dada isn't until Friday. So what's this thing that's there but not there? Or did you just turn into the sphinx?"

"Never mind, it's stupid," Tyler said. "Sorry."

He ran the book through the checkout process. "One twenty-sixth of the encyclopedia, all yours for two weeks. Have fun."
