Tyler yawned as he opened the library; he had slept even less than usual the night before. He gripped his coffee tightly as he settled in behind the desk.

The library was open.

[OOC: New job = I'm here until about 1:30 EST and will pick up any tags after 10. Also, Bob is a ghost only Tyler can see; that thread is locked and Bob's presence is NFB unless the pirate can see ghosts.]

"I'll be okay," Tyler said, less because he thought he would be and more because there was nothing else to say.

Anakin nodded because it was the thing to do. Not because he particularly believed that Tyler would be okay.

He flipped over the book he'd been reading. "Is it just me, or was the Spanish-American War deeply, deeply pointless?"

"Huh?" Tyler said. It took most of his mental power to focus on the question. "That was about territory, right? It's always about territory."

"It seems to be a testoterone-driven pissing match," Anakin said, shutting the book with a thump. "But that's most wars, too."

"Seems to be what men are best at," Tyler said. "OD'ing on testosterone and beating the crap out of someone. Governments use weapons, but it's all the same."

Anakin nodded. "Pretty much. Smaller nations losing out to bigger ones, petty grievances spawning planetary wars." He made a face. "It's all the Jedi can do to slow it down, never mind trying to stop it."

"Is that what you do?" Tyler asked. "Hard job."

"Most of it, yeah," Anakin said, nodding. "In board rooms when we can manage it, in cockpits and on battlefields when we can't."

"I'd never have the patience for the board room part," Tyler said.

"It can be a trial," Anakin said, rolling his eyes. "Death by extreme boredom is often an option."

"I have often believed that was physically possible," Tyler said.

"If it actually happens, it'll be ten days into a negotiation on mineral rights on a dirt-ball planet that no one cares about," Anakin said, nodding.

Tyler groaned, looking marginally more all right as the conversation continued. "Sounds like the cure for my insomnia."

"I'll get you transcripts if you're feeling incredibly masochistic," Anakin offered. "Sooooooo dull."

"I think I can pass on the temptation," Tyler said, straigntening. "Well. I'll leave you to your reading."

"Thanks," Anakin said, smiling. "The distraction was a welcome on, though."
