Tyler reached a hand across the table. "So. Did you get up to anything interesting after we got back to school yesterday? I just hung out in my room."

River gently poked his fingers. "I hid under my bed and talked to Berthold," she said. "But I'd like to blow up another chair with you. Anytime."

Tyler totally grinned. "Berthold? Did he thank you for the ice cream I brought him?"

"And yeah. We should do -- something, sometime. Maybe not anyplace with the troopers around."

"I think Berthold remembered you, yes," River replied. "And no, no troopers. Where?" The idea of meeting up again felt quite exciting.

Tyler smiled, and his mouth opened and closed -- and he realized he had no idea what he wanted to say.

He wanted to be with River, but he had a vague feelign blowing things up together wasn't how dating usually worked.

Not that he knew how dating did work.

Ah well.

"What if we didn't blow anything up?" he asked tenatively. "Do you like -- food?"

"Yes, I like food. Or I would starve." River giggled. "We could make popcorn?" she suggested.

"Starving," Tyler said seriously, "Would be a very bad thing."

"We could make popcorn. Or I could buy you pizza." He swallowed, tryign to ignore the buzzing of nerves in his ears. "When are you free?"

"Pizza?" River hadn't tried pizza. "Pizza would be nice." When? "I need dinner tonight. Where do you by pizza?"

"Pizza Planet," Tyler said. He smiled, this hadn't been so bad, and a thought struck him. "Can we make it tomorrow? I have sex ed this afternoon and sometimes I don't want to eat after that class."

Not to mention how embarassing his thoughts could be.

[OOC: Sorry, busy at work right now.]

"Oh, that's fine," River said quickly. She had a feeling this could be a date, and she had no idea how it was supposed to work. At least not here. On the other hand she sensed Tyler was a bit nervous too.

"Sex ed? Is it fun?" River asked innocently, hoping that Tyler would think of something interesting.

Tyler gave a nervous smile. "Good."

Then he thought about how to explain sex ed and blushed.

"It's different," he said. "We do a lot of playing with condoms, we made, um, onenightstand kits. I like the teacher."

River just grinned. "What did you put in the onenightstand kits?"

Wow, the ceiling was interesting.

"Stuff. Um, boxers, a marker, tic-tacs and toothpaste." He skipped the condoms. And the crab shampoo.

"Crab shampoo?" River giggled. Then she felt bad. She shouldn't tease him. He might end up hurt and walk away.

"Sorry. Shouldn't do that."

Tyler squinted.

"I didn't say anything about that," he protested. "What shouldn't you do?"

"Read your mind. It's rude." River looked guilty and a little worried. She poked Tyler's fingers again.

Tyler poked her fingers back, realizing that this made sense in a strange way. "You're psychic?"

He hesitated. "And you still li- want to hang out with me?"

River blinked. "Why shouldn't I? You mean the other guy? I don't have a problem with that." She actually felt a little hurt that she would think she'd mind.

"Him," Tyler agreed, a little astonished. "Most people do have a problem, is all. I have a problem with him a lot of the time."

"Oh, I shouldn't worry," River said. Which perhaps wasn't entirely true, but Tyler didn't need to hear that. "Can't we just blow things up in a nice way like yesterday?"

"If it's what you like," Tyler said, figuring that at any rate, he wouldn't have to explain the whole thing to River. "Pizza. Then we'll find a place to blow things up."

He ate a last spooniful of pooding and stood. "I should get going," he said reluctantly. "See you tomorrow, River."

River waved and grinned.

Tyler paused for a moment more, then went for it and dropped a quick kiss on River's forehead before leaving the cafeteria.

"Bye."

River couldn't help blushing.
