Wilderness Survival - Week 5 | Thursday Morning, A Clearing in the Woods

Once again, Callisto had the second lockbox out. "Clothes and shoes, children. And before you start complaining, if you don't give me your clothes now, you'll have to wear them the entire class, and trust me, you won't enjoy that."

Once she'd collected clothing from those willing to give it up, she gestured to a set of spears and hand woven nets. "If you'll take either a net or a spear, then follow me?"

Callisto led the class though the preserve down to the beach, then into the water. Where she proceeded to give a lecture on basic fishing techniques.

"Now spend the rest of the class trying out spear, net and bare hand techniques, but those of you with spears, please be careful of your fellow students, as we don't want to have any accidents that might attract sharks."

"Also remember that you are expected to clean and cook anything you catch yourself. Waste no, want not."

This? Was almost too damn easy. It was like the early days of his training all over again. Alphonse went with the spear and carefully picked out the right fish to catch.

He's seen this enough on television, but he's not kidding himself and really isn't expecting to catch anything. It won't stop him from trying, though.

Molly hefted her spear, trying to decide how best to throw it. "You ever do this before?" she asked.

Just then Cameron tried to spear a fish and missed by a mile. "I think it's safe to say that I haven't."

"I haven't either." Molly watched him and then stabbed at a fish. She also missed. "Hmmm. I feel like I should throw it, but it would probably just get lost."

"Somehow I think it doesn't matter and I'll miss either way," Cameron stabbed at a cheeky fish that swam right passed him but narrowly missed.

"Maybe after enough practice," she said and tried again. But, the fish was just beyond her reach and she dropped her spear. "Oops." She ducked under the water to retrieve it.

Cameron decided that was more interesting to watch than the fish.

Molly surfaced and saw him watching her. "You're supposed to be fishing," she said with a smirk.

"I was making sure you didn't get harassed by any sharks," Cameron replied with a smirk. "You're safe now."

Molly laughed lightly and moved closer to him. "Thank you for keeping an eye out then," she said with a smile. "I would hate to be ambushed by my one possible vulnerability."

"You're welcome," he said, grinning. "All in a day's work."

She looked around quickly to make sure no one was watching them before standing on tiptoe to give him a kiss on the cheek. "My hero," she said quietly.

Cameron blushed and quickly kissed the tip of her nose.

Molly might have blushed as well, but it was a little hard to tell with all the sun she'd been getting lately.

Cameron cleared his throat. "I think the fish are laughing at us."

[identity profile] bruiser-in-pink.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
"We'd better stab them with spear then," Molly said and turned to look for more fish.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure I want to catch one," Cameron admitted softly. "I'm not so fond of the whole cleaning idea."

Molly thought about it and wrinkled her nose. "Me either actually," she whispered. "Maybe we can practice scaring the fish by getting really really close with our spears."

"Sounds like a plan," Cameron nodded and decided to give it a go.

Aeryn could probably do this fairly easily, as this is the kind of thing she had to do in her own training, if not exactly the same. Still, Aeryn's taking her time.

A spear was almost like a stake, so Buffy was happy.

Sam came up beside Buffy, keeping his spear carefully on the other side from her. "I think this might be a little more useful than last week's lesson," he said, trying not to be distracted by the bikini.

Buffy giggled. The spear looked nearly as natural in her hand as a stake would do. not dirty "Maybe, yeah. You might want to hope being rescued before you got to make clothing."
