There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire, and a couple of baskets filled with apples, oranges, and bananas, because sometimes you have to balance out all the doughnuts/twinkies/s'mores, after all. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"You'll probably each want something to drink, because I'm gonna make you talk, and some of you might be the type to get dry throats when you do this kind of talking.

Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. I figure we'll probably switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you' might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay ~~vampires~~ dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

Hermione has to think a bit. Also, she's not the best liar.

"1. My parents are both dentists.
2. I once turned into a cat, sort of.
3. I failed two exams last year."

Just saying the third one almost makes her hyperventilate.

Nadia recognized the signs of near-hyperventilation. "Let me guess, three is the lie?"

Hermione actually tries to lie. "No, that's not it," she says, but has gone completely pale.

Nadia blinked. "So your parents aren't dentists?" She smiles as she says it. She's pretty sure Hermione is lying again, but it could be a really good diversionary tactic.

The hyperventilating seems like a bit of a give-away, besides, Lana can't imagine this girl failing *anything*. "Number three?"

Hermione is still trying the lie. "...Possibly."

Lana raises her eyebrows at her. "Possibly? You possibly failed two exams?" She's clearly skeptical.

"Three?" Shiro looked at her carefully wondering if she had choked on the food their teacher had been so nice to provide.

Hermione has now given up on the lie. "Yes," she says, and looks relieved.

"Yes!" Shiro exclaimed, now a very happy catboy, "I got one!"

Yeah, the near-hyperventilation kind of gives the game away. "I'm going with three."

"Your parents are dentists? And you went around with teeth like that?" Draco burst out laughing. "I'm not going to even bother guessing, Granger. I know you too well, terrifying as that is."

D raised an eyebrow. Each of these was entirely plausible. "One, perhaps?"

"Three. You looked like you were about to have a cow saying it."

Well, the hyperventilating is kind of a clue.

"Three," Bridge says with a shrug.

"Um, yeah, no question - three is the lie, isn't it?" Rory asked with a grin.

"Number 1?" Cordy asked. Because how weird would it be to have both parents in the same profession.

Some of Fandom's lessons still hadn't quite sunk in yet. "Two?"

"No," says Hermione, looking a little shy. "That actually happened."

Zack rubbed his forehead. "You have too nice teeth for one to be false, so three?"

She doesn't mention the bit about her magically-fixed teeth. She nods. "That's it."
