Scoobying Workshop #2, Afternoon 5/30/2006 (Main Campfire)

There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire, and a couple of baskets filled with apples, oranges, and bananas, because sometimes you have to balance out all the doughnuts/twinkies/s'mores, after all. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"You'll probably each want something to drink, because I'm gonna make you talk, and some of you might be the type to get dry throats when you do this kind of talking.

Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. I figure we'll probably switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you' might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay vampires dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

Z can lie like a lying thing when she has to.

One sounded entirely plausible to Draco. After all, his own father is in prison. And Z seemed like she could kick Draco's ass so he could see her doing number three.

"I'm going to go with number two." he says "You just told people it was your birthday for free presents."

"Right, but also wrong. It was my birthday. But I turned sixteen." In Z's experience, the best lies are the ones that have some element of the truth in them. "And I didn't get any presents. Well. Jamie sent me cheesecake today."

He was starting to wonder how many times he'd been lied to in the past without even knowing it.
