Scoobying Workshop #2, Afternoon 5/30/2006 (Main Campfire)

There are drinks set out on a folding table near the unlit campfire, and a couple of baskets filled with apples, oranges, and bananas, because sometimes you have to balance out all the doughnuts/twinkies/s'mores, after all. There's also a cardboard box at each end of the table, as yet unopened. Xander is standing in front of the table handing out cups.

"You'll probably each want something to drink, because I'm gonna make you talk, and some of you might be the type to get dry throats when you do this kind of talking.

Last week we looked at one specific job someone might have on a team; this time, we'll go with a skill that can be useful for anybody when you're trying to support your fellow Scooby-types -- or your flashy superpowered leader, if you have one. I figure we'll probably switch back and forth between those two things each week for most of the workshop, and look at putting them together towards the end.

So what skill comes in really handy when you're trying to investigate a crime, stop the bad guys, rescue the princess or otherwise save the day for goodness, justice, puppies, and truth?

The ability to lie your ass off.

I know that sounds kind of contradicty, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'bad pie,' and some of you guys may not be down with bending the truth until it squeaks, but the fact is that sometimes you' might have to, at least for a while. You may need to cover for your friend with the secret identity, or your entire group that just cut class to go slay vampires dragons, or yourself, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. And hey, maybe you'll get lucky enough not to need it -- but it's a skill you should have, just in case."

If there was one thing Nadia was skilled at, it was lying. "Let's see,
1. On Saturday I met a talking moose and a talking squirrel in the woods.
2. On Sunday, I had a delicious brunch at Luke's.

"Sorry, I really did meet a talking moose and squirrel this weekend." Nadia frowned. "At least, I think I did. I kind of got knocked over shortly thereafter, so I might be remembering it wrong."

"I don't know, I just guessed." Maybe she was picking up on some subtle physical cue, but if she was, it was totally unconscious. "Am I wrong?"

"One sounds entirely too plausible for life on Fandom Island. So, er, two? Which, I must say, I've never got anything bad there." D said. Of course, she's got a fondness for Earthly foods so her judgment isn't the best.

Bridge thinks about this. It'd be easy enough to cheat and use his powers to figure out which was the lie, but that went against... pretty much the entire point of the exercise. So he shrugs, and guesses. "Three? I don't think it's possible to have a boring day around here."

"You wouldn't think so, but it's actually entirely possible. It mostly involves not getting out of bed." She thinks about this for a moment. "Also not sleeping, because then you might get interesting dreams, and not sharing the bed with anyone because that's inherently interesting."
