Archery Workshop #5, 6/20, Danger Shop, Afternoon

Miho had wanted to use holographic people who'd annoyed her for this, but then it occurred to her the administration might frown on that. So she's been fiddling with the Danger Shop's controls and has come up with what she believes is an acceptable substitute.

The Danger Shop is set up as a large, open room, with five large round targets apparently floating at the other end of the room. A line is drawn in blue tape on the floor, and the students' virtual arrows are fletched in different colors so they can keep straight who shot what.

Miho stood next to a blackboard at the entrance, a box at her feet. The blackboard read, Do not go past the line. Hit a bulls-eye, win a prize. Once everyone was present, she hit a button on the Danger Shop remote and the targets began moving on random paths within the area behind the blue line.

Handling the bow was a lot easier in human form than demon form. Bel took the arrows with red and black fletching and shot at the targets. His first shot missed the target he was aiming at but hit the target moving behind it.

He meant to do that, reall.

No bullseyes, but he was getting much better.

Conner's arrows, as governed by whatever bizarre cosmic law dictated the color scheme of his life, had red and white fletching. His first two shots actually hit the targets -- the second time it really was the one he'd been aiming at -- and the third came very close to a pure-luck bullseye. The fourth and fifth shots, however, got nothing but air.

Muttering to himself, Conner shook his wrists out and tried again.

Okay, now this? Is difficult. Parker's arrows-- with maroon and silver fletching-- are hitting once or twice. But a bull's eye is clearly not going to happen this week.

A couple of arrows flew right past the targets. One centimeter to the left and they would have hit. Buffy scowled, and focused. The remaining arrows all hit the targets, but none hit bullseye. No shiny ninja doll for Buffy. Woe.

Sakurazaki is really off her game today. It had nothing to do with the moving targets at all. Moving targets had never been a problem for her. It did have everything to do with the fact that here she was training with a stupid bow when she could be training with her sword. It was shameful and just downright depressing. That sword needed to get here soon.

But she sighs and trudges on, occationally nicking a target or two, planting an arrow in an outer space, although she's really tempted to just throw the bow over her shoulder, say "forget this," and go upstairs to wait for Yuunagi.

Gwynn? She's pretending that the moving targets are Prince John's men. Gwynn's arrows with silver and dark green fletching are happily hitting things. She even gets a bullseye or two. No more than that, though, because her mind is on a certain red-headed boy.

The first few of bright blue arrows wind up hitting the back wall and bouncing to the floor. Eventually Isabel was able to compensate for the movement of the targets and managed to hit it more often then not. But it's going to take some practice before she's hitting bullseyes.

Dawn fired her first shot and watched the black and white fletching of her arrow fly right past the target. The second followed much the same path. Once she moved two steps to the right, at least she hit the target, but it was mostly by luck and nowhere the bullseye.

She sighed. This was going to take a lot of work.

Buffy punched the air happily. Moving targets! Oh yeah. She picked up a bunch of pale blue arrows and got ready. "This is gonna be so much fun!"

Dawn glanced over at Buffy as she organized her own bow and arrows, with black and white fletching. "I'm gonna hate you after this class, aren't I?"

Bel grinned when he saw the moving targets. "This is a little more like it," he said. He'd been looking forward to shooting at something more like an actual foe than a stationary target.

Parker grrr'd under her breath. "I can do this with a gun, why isn't it working the same way with the arrows?" she muttered.

Conner hung around for a while and did his archery thing until he'd gotten to the point where three out of every five arrows at least hit the target he'd been aiming for. Once he was convinced he could keep that up for a reasonable amount of time, he quietly slipped out before he missed too much of the England-Sweden soccer game.

He didn't really bother trying to use any of his brother's ninja-sneakiness tips. Because please. Miho was teaching this class, and Eric had flunked out of ninja school.

In between her rather half-hearted attempts, there are long pauses where Sakurazaki lowers her bow and mutters a lot in fragmented Japanese. They are quite obviously not very happy and fun phrases.

Dawn was becoming increasingly frustrated as she kept missing the target. She began glaring at the targets as if they had offended her personally, which didn't improve her aim any.

There was some muttering, but most people probably wouldn't recognize the language.
