Wilderness Survival - Week 4 | Thursday Morning, A Clearing in the Woods

Callisto had two lock boxes today, rather than just one. She pointed at the first box. "Shoes."

Then she pointed at the second box. "Now your clothes. Everything except your underwear."

After everyone had removed their clothing and placed it in the box, Callisto continued "If you spend a prolonged period of time in the wilderness, then it is more than likely whatever clothing you were wearing at the time will come under a considerable amount of wear and tear, especially if it wasn't designed for the environment you're in. The results can be… unpleasant to say the least.

"Luckily, it is possible to repair, and even make clothing from items found in the wilderness. Animal skins, some kinds of tree barks, vines, sinew. The possibilities, if not endless, are at least more varied than you'd think. Even luckier for you, I'm not making you hunt and forage for the raw materials.

"I think you can guess the rest of today's lesson. Use the materials I've provided to make garments to replace the ones you were wearing before. I know the equipment might be a primitive compared to what some of you may be used to, all bone needles and stone knives, but well, you'll just have to deal.

"Get to it," Callisto said. "And as an extra incentive, you're not getting your clothes back until next week, so make sure that you put a decent effort into the clothes."

"God, this is going to look like a bad version of Monkey Planet," Parker muttered in resignation. Fur bikinis are *not* her thing. But that's what it's going to end up being.

On the other hand? The scenery around her was... not bad at all.

She hid a grin from Sam, Alec, Cam, and the other guys, and tried to fasten the furs together with vines.

"At least all those sessions on stitches in medical school first aid lessons are going to be put to use here," said Janet, still glaring at the skins.

"Thank you, Sisters of Perpetual Confusion," Parker agreed sarcastically. "Who knew embroidery would ever be useful for anything." She grabbed a couple of vines, and threaded them through the bone needle, then started looking for shells.

"Just pretend it's a patient," muttered Janet. "A furry, internal organless patient. It's Fandom, it's not like it couldn't happen." She snatched up some lengths of sinew, some fur--she could manage a skirt, at least, and some kind of a top--a bone needle and a stone knife, and stashed them off to the side, then joined Parker's hunt for shells.

Parker threaded the smallest conch shells she could find on a vine, then used them as stop-gaps on the thread, so it wouldn't keep slipping out of the holes. "This is *not* couture," she muttered. "God bless whoever invented silk. *That* is clothing."

Janet nodded. "Good idea with the shells. I'm stealing it." She spread out one of the furs on a nearby, mostly flat tree stump and started carefully slicing it into a mostly skirt-like shape. She could make a wrap miniskirt or something. "If it were silk, we'd have to spin and weave the fibers. Don't give her ideas."

Okay, she could just pretend she was performing surgery. On a piece of fur. A stone knife was more awkward than a scalpel, but she could cut a straight line like nobody's business.

"Point." Parker looked around. "And damnit, I don't know how to make shoes. Leaf and thong sandals, I guess. I'm sick of walking back barefoot."

"I have no idea. Maybe you can cut some fur into strips and wrap it around your feet? Tie it around your ankles with sinew?" Janet glared at her stitches, but kept sewing away. "They're going to think there's an invasion of cavemen back at the school, aren't they?"

Parker nodded grimly. "We'll get asked if we're possessed or have amnesia or something. Joy. Rapture."

"And you know there are going to be pictures," sighed Janet. "Why did they think putting a teenage warlord in a position of power was a good idea again?"

"Easier than locking her up?" Parker suggested. "I'm making this cape big enough to hide anything embarassing."

"Probably, though I think Principal Washburn stands a good chance of taking Cal if there's a problem," said Janet. "Sensible of you. I'm just going to sew as little as possible and pray no one sees me on the way back to the dorms."

Which, of course, was a foolish hope.

OOC: Work is nuts. SP?

"Fur bikini just to get out of here. ALthough it's going to look very silly over this sports bra." Parker grinned.

"At least we're all going to look silly together," offered Janet. "Thank goodness I wore something with some, ah, support today. And that matched."

"Alec is looking less silly and more... something." Parker is very deliberately not looking over at Dean's body. "Remind me, after I am over the trauma? To thank Callisto for this again."

"You know, you have a very good point about that," said Janet, snickering and glancing covertly over at Alec. Or Dean. Or whoever was occupying whichever body. "I'm still not sending her flowers, though."
